Chuck (11/22/2010): "Chuck vs Phase Three"

A very different Chuck episode this time. I don’t think we’ve seen the entire cast in the same episode for a while. A nice reiteration of the core Chuck/Sarah relationship, showing the lengths to which Sarah will go to rescue Chuck. Plus the gratuitous kickboxing sequence was fun.

I really thought they were going to take this in a different direction. Characters have made such a point of stressing negative emotions as a way to reactivate the Intersect that I figured a burst of positive emotions like Sarah’s declaration of love at the end would do the trick instead. And positivity still might be the ultimate solution if they don’t choose to go a strictly technological route.

I was so sure “Phase 3” was going to refer to Intersect 3.0 but apparently not.

Unless Ellie is about to get an intersect of her own.

Great episode - it was neat to see a fuller picture of just how scary Sarah Walker could be.

I will say, though, that there was probably an unintentional laugh line - the bit where the Thai official scoffs, “You won’t torture me in an American facility!”

So what do you think happened at the end with Ellie and Captain Awesome? Did she absorb a new Intersect?

That is what I was thinking! An “Intersect-ized” Ellie joining the merry band of spies, now that Chuck has been “de-intersected”.

The baby now has an intersect. He’ll come out flashing.

Full on baby martial arts taking out all the doctors and nurses and Awesome.

Looks like Yvonne takes the role pretty seriously - those were some pretty good moves.

I finally got around to watching this. Great episode.

I love that this show can be totally silly one second, then very dark in the next. And the callback to “Apocalypse Now” with Sarah rising out of the water was great.

I don’t think Ellie got the intersect though - as I recall, when the intersect starts downloading, you become immediately immobile. It’s more like she saw some very damning information - maybe about her mother, or perhaps it was her dad telling her that the laptop contained a copy of the intersect or something.

It would be cool if she had the intersect in her head, though. We know that Chuck has some kind of special brain to be able to handle it, and if it’s genetic then maybe Ellie has it too.

Mostly liked it, but didn’t like that they’d nearly erased all of Chuck’s memories and then he was just fine. Resolution in the jungle felt a little forced.

yeah - seems like it really should have been a three parter - seems we got stuck with the bad guys strike back.
