Another genius bit of casting with Gary Cole as Sarah’s father. Now we know why they moved around so much and why he got arrested when Sarah was in high school. A few years in the pokey doesn’t seem like too big of a sentence, though. Captain Awesome seemed a little too trusting of Morgan to lend him some money, but that’s part of what makes him so awesome. Anna Wu returns and wants to shack up with Morgan. Is he going to make the jump to full adulthood before even Chuck? Or is he going to wind up with the (extremely awesome) General Lee?
Did you hear Awesome’s terms for his loan to Morgan? 12%/week, +2% per week missed? That’s loan sharking!
I thought this was a fantastic episode… Gary Cole was great as Sarah’s dad.
“I want to see the look on Lesters face when he popped out of the vag…”
haha…
Has the giant box store mega mart next to Buy More always been Underpants, Etc. ? If it is not new I just noticed it tonight.
Also- I wasn’t fully surprised to see Awesome give up the money. First of all those were some steep terms (Morgan: What does that mean…?) Second, it’s not the first conversation they’ve had where Morgan asked Awesome about growing up.
Jack Burton = Big Trouble In Little China
Nakamichi Plaza ~ Nakatomi Plaza = Die Hard
And of course BTTF and Dukes of Hazzard
Geek references galore.
Large Mart was next to Buy More.
I really wish they’d freaking cut it out with the 120-decibel shrieking “music” stomping all over some scenes, particularly the Lichtenstein setup in the office building. My ears have taken enough punishment over the years! Tone it down, show!
But then, I’m one who thinks the lab scenes in CSI would be greatly improved by replacing the crap they play over it with “Colonel Bogey March” played on a barrel organ.
(after seeing an early Monty Python sketch)
What is that “oh yeah” music thing they played while they were looking at the cars? I’ve heard it a hundred times before, but if it’s an actual song, I don’t know what it is.
I think it’s an actual song, but it was popularized in the movie “Ferris Beuller’s Day Off”, where it was associated with Ferris’s friend
's father’s sports car (if that makes any sense).
I’m thinking that was just a sight gag.
It’s a real song.
Did I miss an episode, or did it seem like they just slipped right into “oh, BTW, here’s my dad?”
Yello is one of my all-time favorite bands. Oh, Yeah has been overplayed and it’s practically a traditional anthem for certain types of scenes, but it’s really worth checking out their other stuff. I’d recommend starting with You Gotta Say Yes to Another Success.
Captain Awesome is awesome because he was willing to take a risk to help Morgan grow up, with just the right mix of innocent naivete and “here are my tough terms.” Sigh. He’ll make a great father.
During the high school reunion episode we saw a flashback to Sarah’s dad getting in trouble and a government official recruiting her.
In my “rewrite the script while watching” thing that my brain always does, I was actually hoping that the last car in the end scene was Daisy Duke’s Jeep, which he could then again blow his money on, but this time as a surprise gift for Anna.
Thanks! That’s been bugging me!
I remember that!
I love how her dad pegged Casey as “the cop” and eventually understood that Chuck was a trustworthy good guy. Also, I’m glad Sarah didn’t turn her father in. Bones did that without any remorse. Bones is a good show but she just doesn’t seem human sometimes.
I believe Casey was “Cop Face.”
Am I mis-remembering, or didn’t Chuck say last season that his parents both died when they were kids, and he and his sister raised each other? He said this episode that his dad just left. I didn’t like that Sarah didn’t turn her father in; he was a crappy father, and she is a government agent now. She should have done her job. Come to think of it, aren’t CIA agents’ families vetted as well? Wouldn’t her father have prevented her from being a CIA agent?
In the aforementioned ‘high school’ episode, she was recruited specifically due to her fathers influence (or perhaps her skills due to it).
I fully expected Sarah to let dad escape… how else can we have more fun ‘con men’ adventures - and clearly he has a knack for finding bad people - could come in handy.
As for Chuck’s parents - I beleve its only been stated that ‘after mom/dad left’ - mom was the second one to leave, and I seem to recall that she did die… I do not believe that Chuck’s dad’s absense was ever specific as to why.
I saw that, I just figured it would be a surprise when he got out of prison and showed up, instead of his already having been out for awhile and running scams around the world. No biggie.
featherlou, the CIA guy who recruited Sarah was the guy who put her father in prison. He knew her background, and put her father away to protect him from some worse people. As long as they know all your secrets and are okay with them, I don’t think your background automatically disqualifies you.
Chuck’s father is going to turn out to be some sort of spy. We all know that. The only question is who will play him. Any theories?
Noooo! Some of us are still in denial.
Oh yeah, that’s right. Never mind.
