Chuck 5.01 "Chuck vs. The Zoom"

I enjoyed Morgan as the Intersect much more than I thought I would. The theme of the final season is Chuck is a hero even without it.

As much as I suspend disbelief for this series, which I love, one thing has always bothered me. Just giving someone knowledge of “kung fu” and making a puppet of their body does not give them the flexibility, muscle and toughness. I don’t know why this one tidbit (and the fact that Chuck should have been a pancake when he hit the van’s roof) bothers me when I can overlook so much else.

A fun episode. I like how they set up the new dynamic with Chuck feeling like the odd man out, and how he proved his worth at the end. The massage scene was funny, and Morgan is always great. I thought the Operation: Toes In The Sand joke was funny at first, but then they pushed it too hard (Look! It spells TITS! Hey, in case you missed it before: TITS!)

Nice obligatory scene with Sarah in lingerie. This show knows what its fans like and it delivers!

The brief scene with Ellie was appreciated, but no Captain Awesome?

So Decker is working for some unknown authority that will, presumably, be the real big bad this season. Any guesses who it is? Probably someone we’ve seen before, right?

Was the ending when he jumped on top of the van (BTW, hard to believe that he wasn’t injured) an homage to the Robert Redford film Sneakers?

And I have to admit I laughed when Sarah was describing the crimes of the villain, and mentioned that he stole money from teachers’ unions, which elicited no response from Casey, but a big response when she mentioned that he stole $2 million from Rush Limbaugh.

Adam Baldwin is a pretty hardcore Republican himself (not just Casey), so it is a bit of an inside joke to those in the know.

I wouldn’t have ever recognized Mark Hamil if not for his name in the credits. As it was, since the credits came after his scene, I spent the entire episode looking for him to show up, then had to go back and make sure I’d actually seen his name in the credits. Then it dawned on me… hey, wait, that guy in the beginning… Sure enough, once I was actually looking for him I could tell who he was, but wow, he looks a lot different from the last time I saw him which already had him looking much different from his best known role. And the voice he used added to the "non-hamil"ness of the character. I know he’s done voice acting, (Joker on Batman: TAS for instance) so that’s not too surprising.

I’ve watched it twice and I still don’t know which char he played.

Who was the guy chuck gave the rub down too?

He was the guy they were stealing the vase from in the opening scene.

who was the guy they duct taped? it’s driving me bananas thinking about it

I’m pretty sure he played Neelix on Star Trek: Voyager.

I agree Tangent. His name is Ethan Phillips. Chuck is not listed on his IMDB Listing, but I am pretty sure it was him. But, I remember him best for playing Pete on Benson.

bingo. my boggled mind thanks you.

That was Mark Hamill??? I’ll have to check that out again. Wow.

I was absolutely sure they’d figure out a way to get the Intersect back into Chuck by the episode’s end. Now I’m glad I was wrong, and hoping he never gets it back.

I really enjoyed Morgan’s Intersect scenes. And Chuck came through as heroic, despite his initial misgivings. Sarah was sexy as hell, like always!

I’m glad that this show has returned! I just wish that it wasn’t the final season.

I’m OK with this being the last season. It would have been fine if the plots stuck to a villain-of-the-week storyline, but the multiple season-long arcs with a giant conspiracy got old.

It’s her new haircut I think. She looks better than she did last season. I didn’t even know it was possible.
