I don’t remember much of Chuck Muncie as as NFL player, I remember his and his unique glasses on football cards I used to collect.

Still, when I was a kid, I used to avidly look forward to my Sports Illustrated arriving. I can still remember how shocked I was to read the famous story on Chuck Muncie and cocaine use in the NFL. This was one of the first big stories to discuss how common drug use was in sports.

I remember Chuck well- EXCELLENT running back with one big flaw: he fumbled a lot! I was a Raider fan in those days, and while I respected Muncie immensely, I could always reassure myself that, no matter how well he was running, the odds were good that he’d cough it up at a key moment.
