Okay, I’ll take this forum out for a spin. Three questions:
What church do you go to?
What are your church meetings called?
What time are they held at?
I’ll start:
I don’t go to church; I’m an inactive LDS.
Church meetings are: Priesthood Meeting (for males 12 and over) or Relief Society (for women) or Primary (for children); Sunday School; and Sacrament Meeting. These are in a 3-hour block.
The time changes every year, as we have 3 Wards (congregations) meeting in the same building. Right now, the meetings for our Ward start at 1:00 p.m. and go until 4:00 p.m. Sundays.
I was raised Baptist (not southern). I don’t attend any more; no particular reason other than it just wasn’t doing it for me. Church services were at 11:00 a.m. Sunday until about 12:30 or 12:45 (depending on when the minister finished his sermon); prayers, hymns by the congregation, some hymns by the choir, some more prayers, the sermon, prayer, hymn and that was about it – file out and shake hands with the minister at the door. Once a month, baptisms (the total immersion thing in the pool, which I thought was kind of cool - I got baptized when I was around 10 years old.) Also once a month, communion – in honor of the Last Supper – a little glass of grape juice (the wine – Christ’s blood) and a piece of unleavened cracker or bread (bread – Christ’s body). Sunday school was before the church service – 9:30 a.m. I think. There was an early evening service, but we never went to that so not sure what time – 7:00 I think.
1 catholic, but i don’t go
2 mass
3 saturday evenings or sunday (times vary)
there are also mass (masses?) daily but they are not manditory. If you want more info just let me know b/c I used to be an altarboy.
Different parishes have different times. Ours is Saturday 5pm, Sunday 7 am, 8:15 am, 9:30 am, 11 am, 12:30 pm. I have no idea when daily (weekday) masses are held; I don’t attend them, as I work.
I’m wiccan, don’t go to a church or other gathering.
I grew up Christian though, and had to go to church every Sunday, and stay for both morning services (each was about a decade long, or so it seemed) because my mom played an instrument during the gawd-awful music part. She also goes to church on Sunday and Wednesday nights.
Catholic (when i do go, which is usually when mom wants me to).
Mass
Well, if I can remember correctly, we have mass on Saturdays at 5:30 pm, Sundays at 8 am, and 10 am, and every weekday there is a mass for people who like going every day (usually older folks). I think they happen at 8 am. The Korean and Chaldeans (Syrians, who have their announcements written in Aramaic) have their masses in the evenings, I think at 6pm on Sundays (once a month). Baptisms usually happen during the 10 am mass, and Confirmations usually happen on Saturdays. First Communion happens at the 10 am mass as well. The different classes are Sunday School, Confirmation classes, and RCIA (I forget the meaning of the acronym, it’s for adults who convert). I could give more correct info if i could find one of the announcements my mom brings home from church, but i couldnt find it.
Baptist, (not to sound sanctimonious, but I attend service every Sunday, unless there are extreme reasons for missing)
Meetings are called “Worship Services”, although there are divisions (see 3.)
Sunday School (both children’s and adult classes) are from 9:30 until 10:30. These take place in various rooms around the building. Then there is a formal worship service in the sanctuary beginning at 10:45. This includes hymn singing and choir singing, announcements, Scripture reading, formalized prayer and a sermon of a half hour or so. Generally the service ends at some time shortly after noon.
Various other meetings and church-related activities take place during the week at different times. I rarely take part in them, though.
Baptist, meeting times at my particular church are as follows:
Sunday 9:45AM - 10:45AM - Sunday School, many class divisions by age and/or depth of study 11:00AM - 12:00PM - Worship service (youth and adults), children’s church 6:00PM - 7:00PM - Evening service (adults), Bible study (youth), chior/drama (children)
Wednesday 7:00PM - 8:00PM - Bible study/prayer meeting (adults), Bible study (youth), Team Kid (children) 8:15PM - 9:15PM - Chior practice (adults)
Thursday 6:00PM - 8:00PM - Visitation (in home visits with new members/prospects) 7:00PM - 8:00PM - Praise Band practice
These are just the recurring, year round meetings. Various and sundry other meetings and get-togethers are held throughout the week.
We have Sunday School, Church (that’s what we call Sunday Morning Services), Gospel Hour, Youth Group, and Wednesday Bible Study.
Sunday School is 9:30AM - 10:15AM Sunday, Church is 10:30AM - 11:30AM Sunday, Gospel Hour and Youth Group are 6:00PM - 7:00PM Sunday. Wednesday Bible Study is Wednesday nights, but I don’t go so I don’t know what time.

Unitarian Universalist
2&3. Services at 9:30 and 11, last 1 hr. Kids attend religious ed at same time. Plus, we are the only religion God trusts enough to give the summers off! (Joke - we all know there is not God!) (Another joke.) Seriously, services run September through mid June.
I spoke with slythe about this, and although it may originally have been “when do churches meet,” it’s pretty clearly now "when does your church meet. That returns it to the realm of IMHO. I’ll send it there now.
