It was many years ago. I once brought a Northern Irish friend of mine along to see me play and them dance. He watched in stupefied silence, and afterwards said the immortal words: “Now I know why Englishmen are impotent”.
Last year there were Morris Dancing. The Border Collie demo was like a sheepdog trial, only there’s like, three dogs and they just do the sheepdog thing without getting scored. It’s just for funsies. They only had a couple- half dozen or so different beers. I liked the Beamish better than the Guiness, but that’s just me.
Brynda, you an’ Rick (if he really said “that’s not the way we do it” every time he saw something done not the way he’s used to it being done, he’ll need lozenges because his throat’s gonna hurt) are coming all the way down from Michigan for this little thing? Geez! It’s a DopeFest! Cool!
typical bloody yanks!
you steal our women, our culture, our language and now you are stealing our BritDopeFests too!
DEAD!?! The thread is dead? T’chuh!
I get one response from an actual Buckeye Doper (yeah, that would be Shibb) and one other 'Merkin Doper (Brynda, but she spoke up for RickQ too).
This looks like a job for…
(da da da daaaaaa!)
The Shameless Bump!
A couple of points:
-
I tried to post this before, but the Board’s been a bit dodgy of late: I actually almost bought some Theakston’s Old Peculier just the day before I read this thread, and then you two go and mention it. I’ll have to pick some up next I’m down to Kentucky. Thanks for the lead. I did get some Leffe, which is quite nice stuff, IMO, and also some Boddington’s Cream Ale, since it had the little dohickeys in it to make it foamy. Not bad, I guess, for beer from a can. Plus I stopped by the new Hofbrauhaus and had a half liter, so not too bad a haul.

There’s a whole bunch of other stuff going on in Cincinnati this weekend and over the next few weeks. In a mix between a hijack and a resusitation attempt, here’s a few of the things that I know about:
Taste of Cincinnati is this coming weekend.
Blue Ash has a Parade for Memorial Day, I think it’s Saturday, plus a Symphony Concert on the 26th.
Blue Ash also has it’s annual airshow, Airport Days, over June 7th and 8th.
And then you get to the British Isles Fest on the weekend after that. Not too bad for such a sleeply little place. I think there’s some other stuff as well, but it’s late, so I’ll leave other news items for tomorrow morning’s bump
You had the chance to buy something called “Old Peculier” and you took a pass? I worry about you.
The Taste is this weekend? Shoot. Don’t think I’ll make it this year either. (It’s only been… Soupo’s six now… five years since I got down to that. You’d think I’d do better for cheap eats.) When’s the “Eat Blue Ash Day”? D’ya know Shibb?
Marking the Air Show on my calendar… now! (Resurect PlaneDope? Look into that. July?)
Remember folks, on the bridge, 11:00, Saturday. (On the gate side, not the Fest-proper side.)
I’ve marked my calendar. Hopefully I’ll be able to find that confounded bridge.
The airshow is easy, I can watch good chunks of it from my yard, whether I like it or not.
IIRC, Taste of Blue Ash is much later in the Summer. But it’s also more kid-friendly, so we can make a mini-Dopefest out of it at worst.
Okey-dokey peeps, here’s the skinny before I wobble off to that Great Incomunacado in the Sky. (OK, not “Sky”, but it is north of here, so work with me.)
Saturday, June 14th, 11:00 at the bridge. Be there! (And the bridge is real easy to find. You go in the main gate and it’s just a little ways in front of you off to the left. You could make it by turning right, but that’s the long way.) I’ll be on the “gate” side, rather than the " 'Fest proper" side. Festive shirt, that’s me. Probably a hat as well, and I’ll try to rememeber the orange hatband. When in doubt, just stand in the middle of the bridge and yell “Rue!”. If I’m there, I’ll yell “What?” back.
Is it just going to be Shibb and me? (Brynda, will you and Rick make it? He is OK, right? I hope so.) Any one else? Don’t forget, Shibb’s going to be there. And it’s kid-friendly, so you don’t have to leave your young-uns in the car.
Sorry we didn’t see this earlier. Rick is doing fine, so we are looking forward to it. See you guys then.
Great. I just over did it on buying beers. I got some of the above mentioned Theakston’s Old Peculier, plus Old Speckled Hen, Chimay, Duvel and some Ephemere, from Unibroue in Quebec.
It’s just too bad that the British Isles Fest isn’t this weekend, the weather seems perfect for it.
Just a reminder: the Fest is this weekend!
And here’s the link again, so you don’t have to scroll all the way back to the top for the directions.
Glad Rick is feeling better Brynda.
We are looking forward to it. Check your email, both of you, for some top secret information.
Oh oh oh! I love secrets!
