I apologize at the outset for what is surely going to be considered a rather esoteric question. In fact, not only is it esoteric, but it’s also pretty parochial, referring as it does to a local Toronto TV presentation.
In any case, I am trying to find out the name of the theme music for “Cinema 6” which was a weekly movie presentation on Toronto’s channel 6 in the 60’s and early 70’s. IIRC, “Cinema 6” appeared on Saturday night (or possibly Friday). The movies shown were generally of a high quality and typically included under-appreciated, well-done, ‘art’ films as opposed to box office hits.
The theme music was played at the beginning and end of the movie presentation (before and after the movie’s music began and ended respectively), as well as when the movie was returning from a commercial break. It consisted of a solo guitar playing what I think was a classical Spanish piece, possibly from the Baroque period. Then again, I have a recollection that it might have been composed by Sor which would place it about a century later. Regardless, the music, to my ear at least, was mournful but beautiful, elegant but simple, and warm but not impassioned. It was truly beautiful.
At the time, the music was pretty well known (in the Toronto area). I remember distinctly a number of times when people would request it from guitarists at parties and the like (“Hey man, can you play Cinema 6?”). And most of the time, the guitarist would oblige.
Any idea what the piece is? Thanks!
