This Bill has just been passed by the House of Lords here in the UK. Gay couples now have the same rights in the UK as hetrosexual ones.

That’s wonderful news! Now if we could get the US to keep pace with the rest of the free world when it comes to civil rights.
Well done my country.
I salute your progressive nation! /_
That looked more salute-like before I submitted it, I swear.
Yet another good reason for us Yanks to set sail.
Congratulations!
Delighted to hear that the UK government is doing one thing right these days.
It’s a shame all the news coverage is about the other bill.
Sweet! :d
That’s a great start, and congratulations to the people of the UK!
I liked reading the comments at the end of the BBC article as well. I know it’s a generalization, but I liked how the British could say the same hateful things as we keep hearing in America, but word it so much more pleasantly. “This kind of thing makes me very cross.”
Congratulations!
Extremely pleased. I’m adding the UK to the list of places I’ll try if I leave the US.
I give it 6-10 years before we get soumthin like that here in the states.
Quite. Foxhunting this, foxhunting that. We’ve just passed a milestone of a bill, and all the bloody news coverage talks about is foxhunting. Grrr.
Mazel tov!
w00t!
And for what it’s worth, in Quebec, we got civil unions about two years before we got full marriage… so just sit tight
Maybe in a way that’s a positive sign – no Fred Phelps type loons stirring up trouble, no moral panic in the tabloids, just a bill being quietly passed to make life better for some people.
Yeah, whereas a proportion of the country’s toffs* are up in arms, and getting tabloid, as well as widespread media coverage, because the government’s banning foxhunting with hounds.
*I realise that being a foxhunter <=/=> being a toff/one of the upper classes.
Well, it’s animals, innit – people care about animals - foxes, hounds and horses
Hence we have the RSPCA (royal patronage 'cos it’s animals) but the NSPCC (royals can’t be bothered 'cos it’s only children)
