Does anyone remember a classic cartoon involving anthropomorphic insects appointed in a Belle Epoque fashion going to an opera house? There was music, but no dialogue. The main diva was a lady bug. I only saw it once as a child, and I believe it might be a Warner Brothers cartoon. It seemed like a one-off thing, like “Now Hear This.” Thanks.
I’m interested too.
Bump!
That’s familiar to me as well. Weren’t the bugs all caricatures of the Hollywood elite? If it’s the one I’m thinking of, it has a definite Betty Boop vibe to it.
for having some memory of this and proving I’m not crazy!
I thought it might be one of the Silly Symphonies. None of the titles sound right, but you could explore the other series under “See Also” at the end of the article.
The URL that directs to doesn’t seem to be correct. It sounds like you meant it for the fifth beatle thread.
Could it possible not be an opera house but a jazz club? If so, it might be Woodland Cafe.
The URL doesn’t seem right, but silly symphonies is a good lead. Try googling “Silly Symphonies Bug” you may find it. The ones I saw aren’t what I was thinking of, but there’s a lot there.
Not what the OP was looking for but your comment reminded me of Hollywood Steps Out. - YouTube
Sorry. Yes, that was the URL I had copied just prior to opening this thread. Here is the link I meant to include.
Could it be The Butterfly Ball?
These suggestions remind me of what I saw, in that they are structured as shorts, but the cartoon I’m referring to was done in a style that is a departure from typical animation directed toward children.
It stands out to me because of the haute couture fashion, the fixation on the opera as a high brow social event, and the fact that there was absolutely no dialogue.
Hopefully, what I viewed is not a “lost” short, because it would stand out as an acheivement in animation.
