Given my geography and obvious leanings I am sure there’s something I can do in a practical way, but don’t know where to turn. Any suggestions?

My family is largely a religious right leaning family and I won’t be surprised if they all vote for Huckabee…

Here you go scroll down to see where you can go in your area to sign up and start right away campaigning or getting assigned to a district. When Assigned to a district just show up at the place where they are staging, and help however you can. Usually, there are several people there showing you exactly what to do and where

What do you – and they – find objectionable about Obama?
It’s the way I feel. I fully expected to be flamed when I spoke up at work and in church and I was surprised to find others who feel the way I do. I guess the taint of Oprah, and her mind wiping tactics leave a bad taste in my mouth.

Obama feels like he’s being shoved at me. In 2004 I was a die hard anyone but Bush Kerry supporter. McCain seems like a middle of the road uniter. I’d perfer Clinton, but if things shake out as they seem to be, I will not vote for Obama. I never thought I’d ever vote Republican, but I won’t NOT vote and I will not vote for Obama.

Oh excellent! I’m glad you saw this.

As for your family, you might try directing them to Susan Eisenhower’s impassioned endorsement of Obama. She is a life-long Republican herself, so maybe her perspective can persuade them. It closes as follows . .

You might also try the article I linked and quoted in Post #19 on page 1.

Hope those help, and good luck!

“These are not the candidates you’re looking for…”
Well, you’ll do better than I did. Although I’m from Providence, I currently reside in Albany, NY… and as a registered republican living in NY, I was suppose to switch to the dem party before the last election if I wanted to vote in the dem primaries. I didn’t realize that…

… so I voted for McCain.

It turns out New Jersey requires 50 days to change and I thought 33 days would leave me enough time. So, I voted for McCain and mailed off my change to unaffiliated on Wednesday.

I am really hoping Obama can knock off Clinton and not pick her or Edwards for VP. Maybe someone like Richardson.

Beware the terrible power of Oprah’s taint!

Assuming your family is eligible to vote in the Dem primary, you might try this:

“Well sure, Huckabee might be a likable guy, but he’s not going to win, so it’s really just a protest vote, like those people who voted Nader in 2000. Maybe you should go vote against Hillary instead.”

Why not Edwards? He seems like a true class-conscious populist.

Sorry, remember me, the Reagan Republican that finally gave up on his party.

“Populist Personal Injury Lawyers” with no depth are too much for me. Edwards is a piece of annoying fluff, but that is just my impression of him. He helped wreck a manufacturing company that actually kept its jobs in the US. Sorry, he is most of what I see wrong with our tort system. However, I still think the McDonald’s coffee lady was wrong.

Obama is inspiring, a centrist and looks like he will be able to work on both parties if elected. I would think an older moderate democrat that has been or is a Governor or has Foreign affairs experience would be far more valuable as a running mate.

John Edwards, man of the people, I sue US companies over minor defects that are only exposed by improper installation. You know he did not make his name suing a big polluter or big tobacco; he made his name by winning product defect cases that resulted in rare and occasional injuries.

Jim

Both Hillary and Obama are courting him for an endorsement today. I doubt a veep spot is being discussed, I think he’s been there done that…but I’ve been wrong in the past. I seriously doubt an endorsement by Edwards for Clinton - her campaign is in the begining stages of death throes.
