Clearing my stuff – an MMP give-away, sorta

It’s a picture of Persis Khambatta in the first Star Trek movie.

Oh yeah - speaking of hair - mine is fine and straight and getting too long and I just don’t know what to do with it. FCD wants it long. I think it looks horrid when it gets long. I want it to be thick and wavy and gorgeous. Guess I’ll just be happy that it’s not grey yet.

And, just because: hi, scout!!

Well, I decided not to nap, but instead to work on a quilt for a charity I work with that supports the Combat Support Hospitals. I think I should have gotten a clue the first time I had to tear something out. By about the fourth time, I was so PO’d with myself that I quit and went to the post office to send a couple things. And nearly get killed in the parking lot, where as I was backing out carefully – trying to use my 360° vision since it’s a busy and scary lot with oodles of cars and pedestrians – some idiot came roaring past me about 2 molecules off my back bumper at about 40 mph. It’s a good thing my windows were shut or I would have shocked everyone there with my creative use of language. The Dope has really expanded my vocabulary.

So now I’m giving up on sewing and driving. I think watching TV sounds good. Yeah, definitely a good choice.

My hair is very thick, very fine, very limp, and insists on growing in the direction it wants to, which is straight down onto my face. If I keep it short, it just hangs there. Bleurgh. So I’m growing it long again. It’s not there yet, but another couple inches and at least I’ll be able to tie it back and forgeddaboudit. Since there’s nobody to see me most days but the dogs and Papa T., who still has the same hairstyle he’s been wearing since 1970 or so, it’s not a big deal.

My hair is long and I always keep it pulled back/up. Those dopers who’ve met me can attest to the fact that they’ve never seen it any other way. It’s very fine and won’t do anything. Plus, I’m with drae on not having to spend more than 3 min on it in the morning. So it’s wash, let it air dry while eating breakfast, pull it up, and go. I couldn’t take anything more involved than that. Yeah, it probably could look better styled some way or other, but that’d just be too much work. But this is why I avoid stylists at all costs and cut my own hair. I just know they’re going to say “It’d look so much better if you cut it and used products 1-5 and blah blah blah every morning.” Right. Maybe YOU have time to do that in the morning, but I’d rather sleep.

Get some kind of pageboy cut–one where you can switch the part and still pull it back.

I have thick, used to be wavey, now is curly redddish blonde hair. I cannot live without my flatiron, which I only recently became acquainted with about 2 years ago. Before that, I hated my hair–all firizz, yet gel doesn’t keep it set (it is also fine).

I have never blown my hair dry–I wash it and let it dry overnoc-one reason I think it is not fried from the iron.

Whatever you do, post pics.

Hey-I got a scanner with this new printer. As soon as the kitchen is done, I plan on scanning some pics so that you all can be [del]bored to death[/del] delighted with my pics!
The floor guys showed up at 2 pm–2 hours after they said they would. I could have run so many, many errands…<sigh>. They also don’t speak English and don’t seem inclined to install the quarter-round. To hell with it-I will have my handyman install it next week. I am so DONE with this lil project.
Got my peonies cleaned up, and did some putzing in the yard–truly a gorgeous day out today. Work in am and then cabinets come…

So far, I like the Mac. I find the keyboard to be a bit cramped, but I like that I don’t have to slam down on the keys to make words. I know, I know, but I still treat keyboards like the old electric typewriters that I learned on…

I cannot tell you my dreams–you would either think I was dropping acid or have me arrested!

hope this doesn’t post 3 times–I can’t get the darned thing to submit.

Sheesh, rigs, we heard you the first 2 times! :stuck_out_tongue:

swampy, why aren’t you in Columbus this week? Every other Whiskypalian is here. For those of you who aren’t Episcopalian/aren’t in Columbus: the U.S. Episcopal Church is holding its General Convention here this week and next. I work near the convention center and went for a walk there during lunch. Wow! Lots of people. Nuns even. And lots of clerical collars. Plus, they’re paired with different colored shirts. Mostly black, but several purples (bishops?), and one beige. Also, a couple of monk type people in longer robes. And a bunch of rather earnest-looking (presumably) lay people. Seemed like a pretty cool set-up. I have a clerical-collar question (I’m too lazy to look up an answer). Some of the clerical collars were white all around; others were what I think of as a Catholic clerical collar, with only an inch or so of white showing in front. Is that a rank thing, or just a fashion or tradition statement? Just curious.

Taters, IANAD either, but it sounds like a migraine to me. I’d go to a different doctor. If they tell you it’s not a migraine, ask how they know.

I don’t remember dreams a lot, but when I do, it’s usually pretty vague. Had a conversation with some friends at work today. One of them had dreamt about a coworker of ours who died suddenly a couple years ago. In the dream, the co-worker wasn’t dead, just lost. It was eery. I’d just been thinking about her the other day (we’re coming up on the anniversary of her death and I’ve been working on some of hte stuff I would have consulted her on).

I’m also the proud owner of an FCM original, so I’ll patiently wait my turn to expand my collection. I know it’s taken, but I think the pitcher is way cool.

I have very thick hair that’s been short for almost 25 years. It’s curly and has a lot of body, but takes FOREVER to dry if it’s longer. I, too, refuse to spend time on it or more money than the cost of a good haircut. So, it’s wash and wear. On rare occasions, I’ll use some gel. But even with that, it doesn’t necessarily look right. I’m voting for get a good haircut. If you have a haircutter you trust, ask for an opinion about how long…

OK… I’ve spent too much time here already (for the moment); I should be out in the lovely weather, gardening. Off I go. Really. Now.

Ack! I hope a mod can fix that.

Sorry, this Macbook doesn’t post right away–and I see no indicator that it’s “working” on it…

Ahem. Pardon me whilst I bust a gut.

PAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

I now return you to your regularly scheduled MMP.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, I’m not outside yet cuz I got a phone call and came back here, for some reason.

Are you using Safari, rigs? I usually use Firefox, but just went to Safari to look. There’s a light blue progress bar that moves along the space where the URL is displayed (the address bar up top) to tell you it’s thinking. That’s the only thing I could see offhand that tells you it’s thinking…

My hair - since we’re all sharing - is two inches short of 2 feet long at last check. Dopers who have seen me can attest to the fact that I usually leave it down, fully of heavy curls. Sometimes I’ll put it in a ponytail, if I want it to retain its shape all day long.

As for maintenance, here’s mine:

The biggest “nuisance” I suppose is I wash it every day. That’s a personal thing. I hate going without my hair washed. I have a reason.
Get out of the shower, wrap it in a towel. Then get dressed. Put contacts in.
Once this is completed, shake hair out. Patiently comb it out, removing snarls. This is my most tedious part, I admit, but even this takes less than three minutes and usually more like a minute. If I haven’t washed my hair the day before, it takes longer. You see? Told you I had a reason.
Get gel. Put gel in hands. Rub hands together. Scrunch hair with hands. This takes less than 1 minute.
At this point I can walk out the door if I want to. Sometimes I braid it. Sometimes I ponytail it. Probably 75 % of the time I leave it as is and I fly. And I get hair like this. Pardon me for loving my hair.

(Note, there are two slight differences in the hair in that pic and now - 1, my bangs are about two inches long now. Chopped them some time ago. And 2 - goddamn my hair has darkened a lot in these last two years. Now it’s almost black. WTH?)

SLIGHT TMI ALERT

I just have to say what a difference it makes wearing a *real *sports bra. For the longest time I was making do with sports bras from Wal-Mart since the “real” ones are so expensive and all. But the bike place I order my stuff from had a sale - sports bras for $7. Got three of them, and of course directly afterward it rained for two weeks. :smack: But I finally got out on the bike today with the new bra, and wow! My apartment complex doesn’t believe in paving more than a slapjob, but for once there wasn’t all kinds of impromptu (and annoying) bouncing. Woohoo!

I slept though the night. I sent you my address FCM. Hey bobbio, try dreaming that it’s friday, wake up on saturday and lie in bed wondering what day is it. I have vowed next time I move, I will burn everything that doesn’t fit into Deathmobile.
welby that sounds like all my weekends used to be.
mika! rifty! stop playing with your balls! And it’s not really TMI without flowing goo.
I need a new eaboard, my isn’t woring.

dogbut - I got it! Thanks.

I have hair. When it gets, oh about 3/4 inch long, it gets cut. Actually the rule is when it’s long enough for me to wake up with bed head, it gets cut.

I also have dreams. Last night I woke up about 4 times from dreams, but i don’t remember them. Except the one where Cuervo ran through an open door and I thought he was in the yard, and I was yelling at everyone to catch him, but it turned out he was inside, as we all were. Then I woke up and he was standing next to my pillow purring. Stupid cat, probably MADE me dream that so he could watch me twitch.

The Sox are whipping on Texas, I just got back from the gym, and I have some work to hammer out before I get to sleep.

Tomorrow is kind of a fun day. Our district leadership team, which consists of all the grande quesos from the district office, all the principals, asst. principals, HS deans and athletic directors, and department heads (me, the tech guy and the maintenance guy), gets together about 5 times a year for half-day meetings. This one, the one right after the school year ends, is the fun one. We meet the new leadership folks hired for next year, have little going away things for the ones leaving and give out a couple Big Deal awards and then take turns bragging about all the cool things that happened in our school/department last year.

THEN…we party. We’re usually out of the meeting by 1 or so, then adjourn to someone’s house for lunch/drinks and stuff. Usually by 3 - 3:30, then there are groups splitting off to golf, find a bar or what have you.

So I won’t be around here tomorrow until maybe at night.

That sounds like FCD! When he complains about pillow hair, it’s off to the barber! He got his hair cut really short just before his surgery so he wouldn’t have to bother with it. And he decided he liked it that short. I think he said the barber uses a #2 attachment on the clipper.

See, my bar lights up all blue–or else the shading is too subtle for these tired eyes to discern.

Oh, well–something’s bear repeating (not that my post was one of them).

I just downloaded Firefox, but have no idea what else to do at present. Wednesday, #1 son is going to help his old mother with all of this.

Mika -first thing in the morning, having slept on wet hair, my hair looks like yours, (except not black). Sadly, despite all manner of “product”, it will not remain that way. Hence the flat iron and ponytail etc. Plus, at work, hair must be pulled back–and I think nurses who don’t are icky-but that’s another thread. My hair is about -takes out ruler and holds against head as best she can–a foot long. To my bra strap, anyway.

I like well looked after hair-on any gender, any length. Rowr.

Off to iron uniform and crawl into bed to read for a bit. It’s weird, not having #2 son here with his cheerfulness. :frowning:
Not on Mac at present, back on aol…bad girl.

1 1/2 on the sides and back, I think a 2 or 2 1/2 on top.

Wash, dry, go. Also, when you start to lose some, keeping it this short helps resist the urge to go to the combover. :stuck_out_tongue:

Huh. I just measured, and my hair is about 26 inches long. Just past my waist. I wash it every other day, and it either gets braided or ponytailed, or (on washing days) pulled back with a clip so it is out of my face but still dries. I do not own a hair drier.

It’s pretty easy.
Good news! Useless Git has gotten a fulltime job in a suburb! (Heaven help his employers) So he’s going to be let go! He wants to keep both jobs, but he can’t just work one shift a week, and he won’t be able to get to the store sooner than maybe 7, which is way too late, so my manager is using it as a graceful way to get rid of him. Wheeee!

I’ll be working Thursday, too, because his new employer wants him to start immediately. May they have better luck with him than we did.

A celebratory cat picture. Mr. Lissar uploaded all of them, but no baby pics. That’s Aerin in the sink. She likes the sink.
