It’s labor Day in America, so I’m off to labor. I bowled last night, and bowled a 81, 61, and a 45. The lanes were a tad oily, tough. Have at it!
Happy Monday. My spousal unit decided to work today and use the time later in the year, so he was up at 5. I fell back to sleep till 7. Now I’m awake, contemplating laundry. But no outside work - it’s overcast and threatening rain.
Kittehs are relieved that evil visiting doggeh is gone. Owner of evil visiting doggeh was unhappy that her critter came home with fleas. Ours are on Frontline, so he got it from being outside. I’m guessing if she asks daughter to critter-sit again, it’ll be at her house only.
That’s all I’ve got. Except I’m ticked off that comics.com has been down all weekend. I need my Pearls Before Swine!!!
I have just had lunch (N.o.L!) which was very welcome after missing brekkie for this blood test. Salad followed by pineapple, with some strawberries for this afternoon. I feel fortied now, and ready to face the rest of the day!
It’s my turn to cook tonight so we’re having burgers 'cos that’s what came out of the freezer. I realised once I’d taken them out that they’re korma burgers so that will be interesting. Haven’t decided what to serve them with, but I have all afternoon to ponder that one.
Happy bonus day off, 'murricans!
I say let’s storm comics.com with torches and pitchforks! I’ve had a hankerin’ to storm sump’n with torches and pitchforks over the past three weeks. Maybe this is my chance!
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffienatin’. This is just a normal day off for me. I get to go to the final day of a three day trainin’ tomorrow mornin. Ummm… I figured it up and, bein’ generous, I figure I’ve had four hours of actual trainin’ over the first two days and I can honestly say I don’t think I’ve learned anything I didn’t already know. Such is trainin’ at AT&T.
Happy Labor Day to all the Amurrkin dopers workin’ or not. Happy Monday to everybody else.
 So much for fishin’ this morning. Damned rain…
Holiday blurfs, y’all. I was out to 2 AM with a rescue call.
Today’s forecast, I swear. 60% chance of rain. Or not. Who knows. It’s cloudy but it might clear up. Or rain. Or not.
I swear that’s what the weatherperson on the teevee just said.
It’s completely stupid, but one of the bits of my favorite Scottish radio I like best is the “five word weather,” with such lines as “grey, rainy, dull… it’s Scotland!” or “it’s bloody cold, ma mate!”
It’s quite accurate too, usually. Cept when not. But that’s because in Scotland you can get different weather by cresting a hill and there’s lots of hills.
Good morning all - afternoon to you, BooFae! What are korma burgers, btw? I’m thinking some sort of veggie burger …?
Enjoying the holiday sleep-in myself this AM. Although now I have to go grocery shopping, as being all sloth-like earlier this weekend, I’ve put it off until the last minute. I so don’t want to go back to work tomorrow though!
We had some rain here last night, so I suspect it’s a bit humid out. As well as damp on the grass. LOL
Oh, I forgot. I am a total sloth today. I brushed my teeth and showered. That is the sum total of all the exertion I intend to ummm… exert today.
It is Monday I am busily workng on my pretty Powerpoint presentation and I am STARVING!
I’m up and taking a qick peek in here before I start some work on my work laptop.
Our daughter’s boyfriend bought a smoker yesterday and wants to keep it here since he’s not allowed to keep it at his condo. This morning, he’s up and about getting it going with the idea of smoking some pork. Should be tasty.
Since the Swampster is such a pro with such things as smokers, I’m sure he can offer me up some tips. I plan to make use of it too, since he’s storing it here and told me to make use of it.
It’s rainy and gray here. Meh, fall is here, though I thought I saw something on the news about a “warming trend”.
That’s all I’ve got for now.
Smooches to all.
Second load of clothes in the washer, first in the dryer. Dishwasher is emptied and refilled. Sink is scrubbed, and kitteh hork is wiped up. **FCD **wants me to meet him for lunch, so in about half an hour, I’ll grab a quick shower, don presentable clothing, (in place of the paint-stained shorts and T I’m wearing now) and head into Lexington Park. After we eat, I need to get some groceries, then back here to brew up a big pot of veggie-beef soup.
I fear I’ll have to close up the house for a little while - it’s mega-humid - like 75% in the house, and even I’m all sweaty. **FCD **will not be happy. So I’ll have to turn on the stoopit air again. On the other hand, it’s not supposed to hit 80 all week, so there’s that.
Oh and huzzah - I figured out the voicemail on our digital phone service. Up until Saturday, I didn’t know we had a voicemail box. We’re so rarely on the phone, and usually our machine picks up.
Anyway, time to get presentable for going out in public. Laterz!!
I haven’t tried them before but I think they’re beef burgers flavoured with the spices you’d use to make a korma curry. That’s usually coriander seeds, garlic, cardamon pods, chilli, cayenne pepper, tumeric, ginger and cumin.
One of the local butchers makes “gluten-free burgers” which are approved by my slimming group as a free food (so it contains no naughty points) since he makes them from meat and seasoning with no breadcrumbs, barley, rusk or other additives.
I’ll know by tomorrow what they taste like but his burgers are usually quite mildly spiced so I’m not expecting too much from them, but they’ll be good enough for us!
Up, car packed with MORE office stuff (not much, really–but who wants to lug it when it can go in a car?) and off to work. Technically the library is closed today, but I have much to clean and do.
AND I get lunch with** GT**!
BooFae is coming to America! Stop by Chicago while you’re at it–we’re only a couple hundred miles from NY…
I had glorious plans for all the productivity I was going to get to today, but last night was a friend’s birthday and we had to go to a karaoke bar and then the bar her brother owns and then wait for a friend who was working in St. Louis and then go to Dennys and then… long story short, I got home at 3:30, tired, drunk, and happy. It was quite a good birthday party.
Thanks for the info, BooFae, sounds like they should be tasty. Dunno why I thought veggie burger; maybe there are a lot of vegetarian options in Indian cuisine.
There are so many place to suggest for you to visit in NYC, btw. One place I went years and years ago and would love to see again is The Cloisters, but frankly any of the many museums downtown would do the trick. The Cloisters is way uptown and may remind you too much of home! NYC public library is always nice to just pass by even, since it’s been featured in so many movies.
I’d do bad as a tourist bureau, I guess … no links! Sorry. It’s been years and years since I’ve been to NYC, unfortunately. Top of Empire State Building is good too, especially if it’s a clear day when you can see far and wide. LOL I’ll stop now.
Hey! This is supposed to be top secret! Isn’t it?
Am taking a break from hanging out with 22 high school students. It’s a hoot, but tiring. And, because 22 students wasn’t enough, we get an additional student just for tonight and tomorrow (kid is spending the year near here; her friends came very close to literally squeeing once we got all the details worked out).
Haven’t caught up on the end of last week’s MMP and have only skimmed today’s. Chicago seems much less crowded today. Might only be because it’s early yet.
Gotta go make sure I know where I’m meeting rigs.
I’ll be back after a bit, I hope.
Hugs to all!
GT
That sounds similar to my new favorite weather site (NSFW due to language).
Last night Irish Brother, Moody Friend and I went to the local Celtic bar for beer. We each got a sampler of five of their microbrews (very good) and then Irish Brother got us each a pint of porter. I am an incredibly cheap drunk, plus I was tired after a long day of needy people at work. Halfway through the sampler I started leaning and then I finished off Irish Brother’s pint for him. Once again I have discovered that I am the kind of drunk that wants to start fights. I swear, I must have real Irish blood in me somewhere. Either that or my German side is mean. Quite possibly both.
I have to labor today. Remember me as a hero.
BooFae, when Mom and Lilbro came to visit, I asked them whether they wanted to spend a few days in DC or NYC. They asked whether I’d gone crazy. Having established that I wasn’t any crazier than a few months prior, to New York we went.
They loved the tourist bus, I heartily recommend it. We took together a Lower Manhattan trip and one that hopped over to Brooklyn; they went on Manhattan by Night as well. We took it opposite Sheraton hotel. They had several different trips. It’s a good way to get acquainted with where Stuff is, which of that Stuff you really want to visit and which Stuffs you can put on a walking route.
The UN, Central Park and the Empire State Building make the lists of pretty much everybody I know who’s been there. There’s enough museums to make the most enthusiastic of museum lovers want some fresh air. If you want to go to a Broadway show, you can get tickets at prices that won’t be equivalent to a small country’s budget from this rickety-looking stand in Times Square, although I really don’t much see the point in your case.
I don’t usually check in here, but I’m bored, so… But speaking of Scotland, I watched a Craig Ferguson dvd yesterday, called “Wee Bit O’Revolution.” He said in Scotland, “damp” is a color. He says (paraphrasing), “I like that car. You got it in damp?” I fell off the couch. I want to marry him.
