Before people start criticizing either political party for their policies, please get your facts straight. One that I have been seeing on FB frequently lately is the assertion that the Affordable Care Act (sheepishly referred to as Obamacare) covers abortion and forces people to use their taxpayer money to pay for it. This is simply NOT true.
in fact “Under the new health care law, federal funds continue not to be used for abortion services, except those in cases of rape or incest or where the life of the woman is endangered,” she said. “No one will be required to choose a plan that covers these services and no taxpayer dollars will be spent on them. Before choosing a health plan, consumers will know whether the plan covers these services. And if it does, payments will be made into a separate account to ensure no federal dollars fund these services.”–Erin Shields, a spokeswoman for the Department of Health and Human Services,
I am tired of the misinformation and half-truths thrown around by the Republicans and Democrats this election.
Is there something that you have heard that you have been dying to clear up? This is about either the Republicans or the Democrats that has been touted as truth or fact but in reality is a out right lie. I am surprised (but really why should I be) by how gullible people are this election. Has it always been this bad or is it really worse this time around?
The willful ignorance astounds me. And this isn’t just from Repubs, it’s from all sides this election. What is the point in voting if people don’t really even know why they are voting for the person they are voting for? :dubious:
Another one I heard on the boat: “If Obama wins re-election, we won’t even have elections anymore! He’s already stepping around congress, doing whatever he wants.”
Humans are stupid, ignorant, petty and cruel. We have an astonishing capacity for self-delusion and denial.
“Well, we do, but some stupid people keep trying to convince themselves that no one knows because that furthers their delusional narrative.”
“Stupid people have said that about every President we’ve had for the last fifty years or more. Non-stupid people realize that it doesn’t work that way.”
People often say the things they want to be true, and disregard any evidence to the contrary. They may know what the facts are, but it doesn’t change what they say or how they think.
