The L.A. Times is reporting that they have seen an unredacted copy of the Jason Grimsley affadavit, and Roger Clemens and Andy Pettitte are among the players Grimsley claims used steroids and HGH. Also implicated: Baltimore Orioles shortstop Miguel Tejada, second baseman Brian Roberts and outfielder Jay Gibbons.
If it’s true, it’s disappointing but not surprising. The rumors have surrounded Clemens for a couple of years now, and there was talk last season that Clemens was going to be suspended due to a failed test.
Well, I care. I care enough that I’m disgusted by MLB to the point that I don’t watch any games not attend them anymore. They are not getting my hard-earned money while they let a cheater (Baroid Bonds) go after one of the most sacred records in baseball.
Sadly, though, no one else cares. Like the Catholic Church or the UN, it’s always the same:
Overwhelming evidence comes to light which shows the organization is rotten to the core.
PR people swing into action, claiming that it’s all being blown out of proportion.
Some scapegoats are fired; these are low level people who are probably NOT responsible for the crimes.
The top people in the organization promise to make sweeping changes.
Nothing happens.
People go on with their lives like everything’s jake.
Clemens accused of steroids again? Is it Sunday already? We’ve heard this before; we’ll see if it’s true or not. Segui has already said that he used HGH, with a prescription, while he was playing. Grimsley is already denying that he said it, so unlike in the Bonds case - where the evidence was visible and strongly documented - I’m not really feeling a rush to come to a decision here.
I am shocked by holier-than-thou Pettitte is being named. Very disappointing and if he has cheated, I guess almost anybody should be suspected.
Clemens and Tejada, I half-way expected. No huge surprise.
Selig needs to push hard for Blood Testing for HGH.
I have to azdmit that when Clemens went berzerk in the 2000 World Series and tried to hit Mike Piazza with a broken bat, the first thing I thought was “Dude’s got some roid rage issues.” Why he wasn’t tossed from the game I’ll never understand. Well, I do understand, he was wearing a Yankee uniform.
This is a pretty serious allegation and if true he deserves scorn, but we don’t have a whole lot of evidence as of yet. The article strongly suggests that Grimsley did not in fact volunteer Clemens’s name.
