For years, I can remember Skychief Rick Able doing the traffic reports morning and night on WTAM (1100 AM). Every so often he might go on vacation for a week, but then he comes back. A few months back, he “went on vacation” and his usual replacement took over, but he’s never come back. I think something must have happened because I’ve heard him reporting traffic for one of the local TV stations (I forget which one) but he’s not back on 1100AM.
Did something happen that I missed out on?
I never heard if there was a final on air spat with between Sky Chief and Mike Trivisano but the relationship between them was rocky for a long time. A few months back I recall Triv saying something to the effect of “just so nobody thinks we’re trying to cover anything up, Sky Chief doesn’t work here any more.” They seemed to imply he was working somewhere out of market so I’m surprised you mentioned he was working for a local TV station (I don’t watch much TV).
I always liked Rick and Triv as well for the most part, but the way Triv treated Sky Chief on several occasions was petty and somewhat vindictive. I don’t know if Rick was fired or just quit.
Yeah, one morning I was flipping thru the TV channels (I rarely watch TV in the moring as I have to get out and on the road rather quickly), and heard him doing traffic for one of the local morning TV shows. I think it was the CBS affiliate (WOIO, I think) but I’m not certain.
Sky Chief Rick Able seemed to be pretty popular, at least people liked his traffic reports. I do remember a while back WTAM gave him an on-air shift on a Sunday afternoon as a try-out (WTAM seems to do a lot of those) and he bombed pretty badly.
