Who were the other deejays on WKRP in Cincinnati?

Here’s what I have:

Dr. Johnny Fever
Venus Flytrap
Les Nessman doing the news

I remember some British guy, some baldheaded guy (same guy?), and Sparky Anderson doing a short-lived sports interview show.

But other than that I can’t recall any other jocks on that station. Unless Dr. Johnny and Venus ran 12 hour shifts, 7 days a week?

That is all they ever showed. I’ve often wondered this myself.

Maybe they piped in some syndicated DJ to cover part of the day.

You’ve forgotten Bailey Quarters who also did the news.

Ahh, I think you can reach Nirvana by trying to understand Sitcoms. I’ve also heard that if you make sense of all of them the universe will implode instantly. Beware!

There was an episode of the show where they were going to form a union of the on-air people. Besides those already mentioned, there were at least two (maybe three) other “DJ’s” present, that were only on for that one show.

If WKRP was a current show, right now they could get by with the Doc, Venus, and one other guy. Our station does it that way… the miracle of recording.

They also had a lot of ‘temp’ guys… there was the one episode where a DJ was a cokehead, and they had to tackle the tough issue of drug abuse. I loved WKRP.

FD.

I seem to recall an episode where Loni Anderson’s character did a call-in advice show.

Haj

Rex Ehrhardt (who Johnny called “the airhead of the air waves”) followed Johnny in midday.

Moe Steiger handled the overnight shift, when he wasn’t having another nervous breakdown.

Then there was that psycho preacher guy they had to fire.

What about the guy who was taking Payola to play “nowhere band” You know the one with the catchy tune that went

  • blah blah get on the truck anad travel with the nowhere band*
and when Carlton found him with the cocaine the guy told him it was foot powder and it ends with Carlton saying “I’ve got a monkey on my foot”

Ah those were the days of fierce blow dried hair. That dude is probably bald by now.

Slight Hijack. The opening theme song has the line, “I am tired of packing and unpacking, town to town up and down the dial.” We never could figure out if this referred to Travis or Johnny. Travis made a living “fixing” various stations, on the other hand Johnny was up and down the dial as well. Comments.

Mmmmm…Travis…drool…
Oops. Sorry about that.

IIRC, they didn’t fire the preacher. They just reined him in with the threat of getting the IRS to audit his outfit.

Quite alright, Persephone. If you need me, I’ll be in the corner having a Jan Smithers moment.

I’d say it was Travis, as the first episode was him arriving and made him out to be the star of the show. However, the show shortly became an ensemble piece, IMO.
