Clever one-liners that nobody got

I’m referencing the Ramones, who got the phrase from the movie mentioned above. I just think it’s funny to have one of the most famous punk rock lines changed to be so nerdy. Imagine the Ramones actually chanting that before breaking into “Pinhead”.

Well I think that’s your problem right there. The reason no one’s commenting to you IRL on getting your joke is that there’s nothing to get. I mean even assuming someone were familiar with both Avogadro’s work and The Ramones there’s still nothing relating the two. There’s no joke there. Why not Ben Franklin? Hitler? Mother Teresa? Eli Whitney? They’d all work just as well if the joke was “imagine how weird it would be if the Ramones said that during a concert.”

It took me awhile to realize that it was just because Avogadro sounds vaguely like “Gabba Gabba”. Never having seen the movie the Ramones reference, I had assumed it had some mole-like creatures which would make for a mole-Mole pun.

(Now, if you were a biologist and had a license plate saying “GABA GABA we recept you”, that would be funny :))

Now that is funny.

Caroll wrote the books for his child-friend, Alice Liddell. Her father was Henry Liddell, Dean of Christ Church, Oxford. He was the co-author of a Classical Greek dictionary that is still widely used today.

Yeah, basically. Just that anyone who’d talk about the dominant paradigm (whether to advocate subverting it, or to earnestly analyze it) would not be the type of person who’d ordinarily express enthusiasm with an “I <3” slogan.

I was in a conversation about sex in some chatroom long time ago…

How some men like the penis touched more and some men like the nads touched more…

I chimed in with, “To me there’s a Vas deferens between the two”

I didn’t even get an “lol”…

I never had another opportunity to ever say it again…till’ now.

lol

After a very long time away from the academic world, I decided to go back to school and start a new career. A lot has changed in the last 20+ years, especially the whole online class thing. My complete and total mental block when trying to do anything math related has not.
So I was sitting at lunch one day with a group of friends and I was discussing my difficulties in dealing with trying to understand the concepts of my math classes. I said “Barbie, was right, math IS hard”. Now I admit, it wasn’t a particularly clever line, but given that the group was mostly women and in my general age range I thought at least one person would get it. Nope. Just a bunch of blank stares.

Figures. The only one liner posted I got was the sex joke!

I think it’s funny.
