NYC IRL III
is on April 15th. Do you have what it takes?

I clicked on it, really I did even before you asked!!

I just haven’t had the chance to go through this site to see if it’s too my liking

Has anyone tried out the new site yet? I mean, more than just clicking on the ad.

Has anyone registered and spent a bit of time there? Do you think it’s worthwhile?

I haven’t had time to check it out myself yet. (I’d rather be here!)

Get off my back, manny.

I done it already.

I clicked on the ad earlier and registered… I didn’t spend too much time there. It wasn’t that exciting, really. Maybe I’ll go back there tomorrow.

What happened to the booze folk who had a banner here?

“I guess one person can make a difference, although most of the time they probably shouldn’t.”

I think the link is broken… Ikeep getting the site from the old Ad…

I keep getting the Chicago Reader site when I click there, as well.

I saw the trivia ad for a while, but now it’s back to the old one. How come?

I was gonna click on it, but it YELLED at me. Ok, I’ll give it a try.
Peace,
mangeorge (Still shaking)

I did it.

I’m up to level ten of the mountain.

I am not impressed… but hey, they’re a paying client of my favorite website… I can play.

Where the heck is it?
Peace,
mangeorge

The game is OK up until TSORL or whoever he is demands that you type messages to the other people. I’ll stick with 100% on Uproar or WWTBAM on the abc website.

OK, I clicked on it and did the signup thing. Does this count as my good deed for the day?

And, in order to attempt to make this a legit GQ thread…

The triva link made me think of that other popular triva contest of today; Who Wants to be a Millionaire. Now, we have had trivia/knowledge based game shows for some time; Jeopardy of course is the classic example. What is it that has made Millionaire such an insanely popular show? Is it simply the amount of money involved? If so, why haven’t Greed or 21 reached the same level of popularity? There have been several publicized comments made about the show in the past few weeks by both Alex Trebeck (Jeopardy) and Ben Stein (Win Ben Stein’s Money), both of which are arguably more difficult than Millionaire. Would they become major hits simply by raising their payouts?

“Sometimes I think the web is just a big plot to keep people like me away from normal society.” — Dilbert

Millionaire may be insanely popular right now, but I have to wonder if it will have “legs”. Jeopardy has been around for a long, long time.

The big difference between the two is that Millionaire runs in the evening prime time slot, and Jeopardy is syndicated, usually in the afternoon, so therefore, IMHO, Millionaire’s questions have been made easier than Jeopardy’s, I think because they want to make it easier and less intimidating for the folks at home to play along (Dad in the recliner with a beer, etc.)

Probably Millionaire is doing better than Greed and 21 because it was first, and in the entertainment industry, there are no points for second place.

I don’t think Jeopardy and Ben Stein would become any more successful by raising their stakes. They have completely different demographics than Millionaire–people watch them for totally different reasons than to watch somebody win 18 gazillion dollars.

I think the 15 minutes for “prime time big bucks trivia game shows” is in about its 13-and-a-halfth minute. The American public’s attention is waning, and the clock is ticking…

Tanstaafl, I think we just hijacked the thread! Oopsie!

We now return you to your regularly scheduled thread.

Click the ad!

OK, boss, I clicked the ad–do I have to play the game, too, or is it enough to click the ad? ::sigh::

Also, the ad seems to come and go like a will o’ the wisp. Is that intentional, to seem more elusive and hence desirable? Or are they only paying for low exposure?

Sometimes it’s there; most of the time it isn’t.

Well, John Rosenbaum doesn’t like the competition so he hacked the board to show his banner.

Ok, but seriously, I’m assuming that the good folks at Pyroto paid tto have their banner shown x many times per y times someone calls up the ole straightdope.com. So if it’s made to appear once per one hundred hits on SD.com, you would only see it once for every hundred times you reload the site. However, since lots and lots of people are hitting the site, it’s probably pretty easy to miss that 1/100 chance.

“I guess one person can make a difference, although most of the time they probably shouldn’t.”

Okay, turn this baby around. I’m hijacking this thread to Luton!

tanstaafl, besides the big money on Millionaire, I think it succeeds because it’s a good game. You get to see the question before deciding whether to go on, and if you don’t know it and can’t deduce the right answer, you have 3 shots at getting it right with some help. And if all else fails, you can take the money and run.

Greed and 21 are just plain sucky games.

I’ve clicked on the trivia game ad several times, but each time got routed to the Chicago Reader site. Just so you don’t think I’m not being supportive.
