I don’t think you’re too off the mark there. Nixon and Clinton actually had a pretty interesting relationship before he died. Nixon called Clinton a few times to offer him advice on international affairs, etc. I don’t remember much else, but there was a good article about it a number of years ago.
It’s cute how you and NewsMax both completely leave out the first part of that exchange. You know, the one where Peter Jennings says that Clinton ranked FIFTH in both theEconomic Management -and- Pursued Justice for All categories, according to these same historians.

Let me see if I can put this Clinton thing into perspective for you liberal hotheads.
“Unprecedented Peace and Prosperity Under Clinton.” We hear that refrain a lot. It is true that the economy of the 90s was good, but a lot of that prosperity rode the “Tech Bubble” which finally collapsed. No matter. We will concede Bill the prosperity.
The “peace” was pretty much an illusion, maintained by ignoring the growing threat from Islamic terrorism, even though they hit the WTC in 1993 - rather early in Bill’s first term. Yes, the Clinton years were peaceful, but the ultimate price we paid for that was very high.
“He only lied about a blowjob.” We hear that a lot, too. But the problem is this: When you lie *under oath * you are guilty of perjury - a felony. It does not matter if you are lying about a frivolous thing or a major thing. The act of lying under oath is a crime in itself. This is an echo of the Watergate Scandal, which - if it taught us anything - taught us this: The cover-up is almost always worse than the thing being covered up.
Besides, perjury damages your credibility. The prosecutor, the judge and the jury will inevitably say to themselves: “Hmm, yeah, he only lied about a blowjob. But he lied. What else has he lied about? What else is he lying about? What else will he lie about?”
What if Clinton had just admitted up front that he got jiggy with Monica? What would have happened to him?
Absolutely nothing.
Sure, the whole episode was tacky, sordid, disgusting, unseemly…But it was not illegal. Bill could have run around the White House lawn with a big, moist cigar in his mouth, turning cartwheels and mooning the House Republicans. “Damn straight! I was brushin’ her teeth day ‘n’ night with Big Willy. Yeehaw! Whattaya gonna do about it?”
Clinton’s enemies would have gnashed their teeth with impotent rage and his supporters probably would have enjoyed his roguish candor.
In any case, he wound up getting impeached. Now suppose the Senate Democrats (along with the Senate Republicans) had thrown Clinton out of office? Then Al Gore would have become President. And he would have enjoyed the natural advantage of an incumbent president in the 2000 election. Would that have bought him an extra 1000 votes in Florida? Maybe. And if Gore had won the 2000 election, he would have been eligible for re-election in 2004.
Are you beginning to catch on? The Democratic Party sacrificed everything for Bill Clinton and they have *absolutely nothing * to show for it. Because it was always about Bill. For Bill himself, it was never about anything but Bill.
Just answer me this: Is the Democratic Party stronger today than it was in 1992?

Lib, I think the problem so many Bush critics here have with Roseworm is not that she dissents from their positions—after all, there are plenty of people like that around here who don’t get picked on this way—but that her accusations are so silly.

Uh-huh. There are allegations that Bush secretly had a woman killed who accused him of raping her, too. There are “long histories of allegations” about any major public figure. The point is, how many such allegations stand up to serious scrutiny? In Clinton’s case, not very many. Nobody has to like the guy, but it’s silly to try to twist his nasty personal behavior into some grand miscarriage of justice.
Liberal: I wish your party would hurry and finish self-destructing. It is time for liberals who champion the rights of individuals to re-emerge and push you leftists back out on the fringe where you belong.

Well, what Clinton actually did isn’t as big a deal as you’re making it out to be. But no, I don’t say that even what he actually did do was “no big deal”. I just don’t think it worked out to any grand miscarriage of justice.
And this is where I think the big difference of opinion comes in.
Most of his supporters do not believe that he ever had any place answering questions about his fidelity under oath.
If I put you under oath and ask you a stupid question about your sex life that will undoubtedly jeopardize your relationship with your family but is not illegal and does not, in any way, affect your ability to perform your job function, what would you do?
