“The essence of a libel claim, of course, is the protection of one’s reputation. Mr. Trump has bragged about his non-consensual sexual touching of women. He has bragged about intruding on beauty pageant contestants in their dressing rooms. He acquiesced to a radio host’s request to discuss Mr. Trump’s own daughter as a ‘piece of ass.’ Multiple women not mentioned in our article have publicly come forward to report on Mr. Trump’s unwanted advances. Nothing in our article has had the slightest effect on the reputation that Mr. Trump, through his own words and actions, has already created for himself.”
Sue away Donald. Might as well add loser to your resume too.
That’s what republicans have turned into. I keep saying it: They will ultimately go too far. I don’t know what too far means, but they will. I think that as sick as this is, it’s still within the boundaries of a perverse new ‘normal’. But eventually, it will cross a line that makes even republicans think twice.
Some believe that the GOP is about to fracture into at least two parties: one touting the traditional Republican identifiers (fiscal conservatism, the primacy of the corporation over the individual, privatization of most government functions), and the other for the Deplorables: those whose thought processes are flooded with hatred and fear. These will take as their banner the destruction of any person or persons who could challenge the white straight Christian male’s supremacy; sociopathic means to this end will be not only used, but celebrated.
Perhaps a test will be devised to separate likely adherents of each new party. A good question to include would be: How likely are you to publish the name and address of a woman who accuses your candidate of sexual misconduct?
It feels to me like the entire political class, the highbrow press, the tv media and just about every form of media has lain in wait for exactly the right moment, and now in the middle of the debates and with 4 weeks of the election they’re opening up from every angle.
It’s like the Trump landing crafts have beached and lowered their exits - and now you throw everything you have at them as if your lives depend on it.
I have no idea what I thought and said 30 years ago but I hope to hell no one ever recorded it: 25-30 year old stories, really? And the media are lapping this up with liberal high ground fervour as if it’s something aid last week.
This is the big fight back: above all else, it feels almost coordinated
But – as per what was pointed out above – other newspapers are now publishing articles that of course quote the Times quoting Ms. Leeds; do you think those other papers can be sued for libel likewise?
In any event, here is where the real Christians are sorely tested. If they are actual, Jesus believing Christians of faith, they cannot support a man who is the very embodiment of the seven deadly sins. If they’re Christians in name - cultural not faith - then they don’t have a problem with the sin, since they don’t actually believe in what Jesus taught.
At this point, taking note of the people and institutions who are still supporting Trump is much more instructive than looking at the ones trying to expose him.
20-30 years ago, if you were a flaming asshole who discriminated against blacks, played fast and loose with other peoples money, and sexually assaulted women who you had power over, then it’s pretty likely you’re still pretty much that guy today.
Especially when you have spent the last 2 years in the public eye basically giving us that idea anyway. Was anyone really surprised that DJT said those remarks on the bus? Nope. Sounds exactly like something he would say. So, yeah, he’s a flaming pile of shit today, and now we have evidence that he was a flaming pile of shit before.
I’m going out on a limb here and say I fully expect to continue being a flaming pile of shit.
Apparently, a planet where a billionaire “master persuader” can’t convince women to let him touch them consentually. The reality is that Trump couldn’t persuade his way out of a paper bag of flaming dog shit.
The irony is that Adams’ stupid theory is what prevented him from seeing the obvious. The revelations weren’t a “meteor”; they were completely inevitable (not the exact details, but something like it). Only someone that starts with the premise that Trump has some kind of persuasive superpower would be surprised.
This Howard Stern footage of Stern calling Trump a sexual predator and Trump giving a “yeah, ya got me” smirk and nod will look great in a campaign ad.
No, I don’t think it’s “evidence” – it’s just a really unfortunate bit of footage considering the week’s events.
The mainstream press does not coordinate nor does it hold back political scandal stories for when they will have the most impact. Simply doesn’t happen. Period.
