Was it Carlin who said, “Imagine the average American; now consider that half the country is stupider than that.”
Carlin, Twain, Bierce, Will Rogers…lotta guys said basically the same.
One funny bit about the email issue:
In essence:
Pence: "Me and Trump demand this seemingly damming information be released NOW!
…
I was just informed that Clinton and her people want this also released too… :smack:
Bipartisanship!"
Maybe she already knows whats in them, seeing as how they were sent to her. And that’s why she hasn’t got any problem at all with moving the pace up a bit. A lot. Right fuckng now!
The actual quote was “think of how stupid the average person is, and realize that half of 'em are stupider than that.”
But point taken.
I guess it’s Hillary’s turn to be delusional. What’s with her temper tantrum against the FBI?
It’s a law enforcement agency. She knows damn well they can’t jeopardize an active investigation by releasing evidence. The FBI has no obligation to tell her squat. Does she think suspects in other investigations get called in for a full briefing?
I didn’t think my disgust for Hillary could grow any deeper. I was wrong.
Well I expect that you will have some disgust too for Trump and Pence that demanded the same from the FBI.
Which is why the FBI shouldn’t have politicized the process in the first place by informing Clinton’s political opponents about the investigation.
The FBI is supposed to be above politics. Regardless of which party is trying to pressure them.
People need to watch that video of Hillary. She was seething mad. A printed transcript doesn’t convey that intensity.
Yeah, this all started with Jason Chaffetz tweeting that the Director of the FBI had informed ***him ***of the new investigation. What’s up with that?
Comey wrote to a whole bunch of people. This wasn’t a private communication. He didn’t write to Hillary, of course. Just a bunch of Republicans. How about that.
JFTR, Here’s the people Comey sent the letter to:
Honorable Richard M. Burr
Chairman
Select Committee on Intelligence
Honorable Charles E. Grassley
Chairman
Committee on the Judiciary
Honorable Richard Shelby
Chairman
Committee on Appropriations
Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice, Science and Related Agencies
Honorable Ron Johnson
Chairman
Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs
Honorable Devin Nunes
Chairman
Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence
Honorable Robert Goodlatte
Chairman
Committee on the Judiciary
Honorable John Culberson
Chairman
Committee on Appropriations
Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice, Science and Related Agencies
Honorable Jason Chaffetz
Chairman
Committee on Oversight and Government Reform
He’s one of the recipients of the letter.
I think Comey should have classified the thing so he could hunt down whoever leaked it.
I would have advised taking a low key approach. “Here they Go Again”. Remind the public this has been dragging on for almost two years. Stand above the issue. Be Presidential.
Btw I’m talking about Hillary. She has this thing won. Unless she mishandles this new challenge.
Ironically it applies equally to some of the tangents that Trump has pursued. He always over reacts.
And just for the record, since I can’t remember where I posted about this earlier (thought it was the pit …?)
Here’s an LA Times article that quotes unnamed LEOs about the current investigation.
So yeah, not to or from Clinton, but still Comey had to run panting to the Republicans with the news that he’s looking into more Clinton emails, although he carefully noted that he’s not sure if they will turn out to be significant.
Regarding these E-mails, of which we apparently know next to nothing about how many there are, the relevance of their content or what they have to do with any previous investigation(s); is this, as Mr. Trump said earlier today, “bigger than Watergate?”
Just trying to find a reference value for my Outrage-O-Meter.
John Kerry was presidential when the Republicans Switboaters were calling him a coward who didn’t deserve his purple heart. Being presidential in the face of Republican lies just lets them control the narrative. Clinton and her team was smart to push back on this and insist that Comey produce the full information, not just carefully hedged hints.
It also makes Pence and Trump look defanged when they noticed that they are demanding the same as Hillary does from the FBI.
Comey said he has no idea if the emails are meaningful. Other officials have told various reporters (LA Times, NYT, AP) that the emails aren’t to or from Clinton or her personal server, and thus unrelated to the previous investigation. The LA Times’ contact seems to think these might be copies of stuff that the FBI has already seen.
I would set your outrage meter for “bullshit” unless Comey can actually produce something that resembles evidence of wrongdoing.
The reason for the letter is explained in a quote in the other thread specifically on the e-mails: Comey had previously testified under oath to congressional committees that the FBI had concluded its investigation into the portion of the e-mails relating to Clinton’s activities.
Now that the FBI has uncovered these additional copies of e-mails, it has to investigate them.
Comey in turn has to report that information to the congressional committees, since it is a change from his previous testimony. If he did not do so, he would be in danger of being in contempt of Congress.
And that’s why the letters went to Republicans: the Chairs of all of the committees are Republicans, so he sends the letter to the Chairs. The Chairs then presumably distribute the letter to all members of their committees.
