Clinton v Trump - The Stretch Run Thread

That does sound encouraging. The downside is that, IIRC, Nate Silver claimed that early voting was a poor predictor of final results. Still, the prospect that Hillary might comfortably take Florida would be very reassuring.

Just saw it on MSNBC’s The Last Word. Looking for a cite.

I’m a pessimist, I do not trust good news. Especially good news accompanied with a music soundtrack of the Hallelujah Chorus. I grasped about how it was that something like 80% of Republicans were willing to vote for their nominee, but that nearly a third of them voted against him?

Da fuq? Perfectly content that they not vote for him, but vote against him? I’m grinning like it’s raining boobs!

The Cubs-Indians series is a morality tale about the hubris of assuming that the guy who is way behind cannot eventually win. I think there was something like that involving a tortoise and a hare, too.

The difference here, I gather, is that the names of people who have voted early are published in FL. So, all these guys needed to do was call them up, ask their affiliation and who they voted for. A somewhat more solid grounding than simply the fact of early voting.

Baseball in November. That is just fucked up. If there were a candidate who could fix that, I would vote for them on that issue alone.

Whats wrong with that? Its the national pass-time, and its way past time.

Ignore how today’s game is going. Silver yesterday had about the same odds of a Trump win as of the Cubs pulling out two wins in a row to take the series.

Not considering what you want to happen, would those odds have been equally attractive for you to bet on based on how each of you view this election (for those who follow baseball at all)?

Silver yesterday would not have had this news.

I tend to believe Nate on this one. Without question early voting leads are something to cheer about, but there’s a reason people vote early. They typically feel like their access to election day might be iffy, so they don’t take chances. Maybe their polling station was moved. Maybe they want to be sure that they actually can vote and then contest the local boards of elections if they find they’re somehow not eligible. Those who vote later probably feel like they have the luxury of waiting, and chances are, they probably do.

This isn’t one of those “early voting favors Dems, therefore the Dems are winning”. This story will be popping up on whichever news sites you favor, you can get more details there.

Yes. that is why the question is ignoring it. It what I had been thinking about during the day today, that I was reasonably optimistic that the Cubs could still pull it out, despite the realistic odds against given by 538, but viewed Trump’s chances as something veery much less.

So much for the concept of secret ballot.

Somehow, when I think about it now, Trump’s earlier pronouncement that “you should have the tax loopholes that let me take advantage of them” is eerily prescient of his claim that the voting system is rigged; in other words, he can confidently say he knows it’s rigged becaus because he rigged it. Though he’s a bonehead about actual governance, Trump is pretty damn determined when it comes to “winning.” In his world, the end always justifies the means.

They voted, why are they expected to keep that a secret? Exit polls upset you too?

Here.

FWIW and take with however many grains of salt you deem appropriate.

Trump proves, once again, how little he knows about the job he’s running for.

I am trying to remain calm, but a Trump Presidency has never seemed more likely to me than right now, and I’m convinced it would be a disaster for our country.

I tend to think it is likely to be valid as it also shows Rubio getting ahead of Murphy, as other polls report. Dissapointing for this democrat, but it shows to me that overall the poll is likely to be closer to the final result regarding other polls. (IMO if it was a shady Democratic poll I would expect it to give some support to Murphy).

It is showing that a significant number of Republcians are doing what I hoped, repudiate Trump. They are still supporting the party in other ways, but you get what you can.

Count your blessings. Hockey fan here. But I’m annoyed as hell that hockey playoffs extend through into June. The only way this is even remotely possible anywhere outside Santa’s back yard is with major refrigeration equipment. Between the postseason and the pre-season, the only time NHL hockey isn’t being played is literally about two months in mid-summer.
