Clinton v Trump - The Stretch Run Thread

In some other countries it’s illegal to report on voting results in any way until the final polls have closed, yes that means all exit polls and early voter polls. Screw the first amendment, this is a clear case where freedom of speech conflicts with the needs of a functioning democracy.

The teenaged girl to whom Weiner was texting his dick pics is calling Comey her second abuser for making her the center of the election.

Remarkable, but why does this not tally with the overall polls showing Trump catching up rapidly? Is it because those who voted early when Clinton was riding high are no longer counted in the opinion polling?

It is supposed to be happening at the moment, but flipping through the news channels, I can’t find anyone covering the press conference live.

Of course they will. This is their only reason for existence at this point.

They have no desire (or even ability) to actually run the government. Hell, they hate “the government”, and don’t even seem to realize that They Are Part Of It.

They will block, stonewall, refuse to pass legislation, hold the country hostage, and make it their NUMBER ONE priority to destroy Clinton at any cost. This is what they do. This is the only thing they know how to do.

Canceled/rescheduled, from what I saw.

Here is a pretty interesting HuffPo article about the media blackout. It talks about the risks journalists have to take in reporting on such serious allegations by an anonymous victim.

On 538 in the fresh updates page, there are the latest Ipsos polls, Clinton was +3 ahead of Trump on the period of Oct. 24-28, in the following polls Clinton has gone to +6, +8, +7 and +7 in the last one that goes to today.

What it comes down to is this: How much damage should an anonymous accuser be able to do before any evidence has to be produced? For all we know, based on the evidence we have, the anonymous accuser in this case could be utterly psychotic and the abuse only occurred in her delusions. Yes, we know that Trump did sexually harass and assault women, but there’s a reason you can’t convict someone of rape on the grounds that they’re generally a horrible human being.

This stuff is nothing new, I suppose, but it’s heartening to see that journalists are still careful about this stuff.

A functioning democracy requires voters smart and dedicated enough to bother going to the polls regardless of what the news media says.

Your solution doesn’t fix the problem we have. Or better said, your solution addresses the symptoms, not the cause.

100% mail in and early voting ought ought to solve the problem.

I think I see the problem.

The Trump campaign is going hard on the negative ads during the 7th game of the World Series. That’s got to be costing them.

Would that Mr. Comey had shown the same self-discipline…

On the one hand, the accuser has a witness. On the other, they both are anonymous. And they had screwed up earlier in the charges before they managed to get a major lawyer.

Seems like a lot of money for the likely return.

And from HuffPo, no less. I generally don’t consider them to be credible journalists but that article was surprisingly balanced.

And the lawyer is a patent lawyer and nobody in journalism can seem to get a straight answer from anyone connected to the case. Based purely on the HuffPo article it sounds like there is a lot screwy about that case. I have no doubt that Trump has sexually assaulted women, probably countless women, but whether he raped a tied-down, weeping thirteen year old is a whole 'nother kettle of fish. I don’t blame the media for its caution, especially after that whole fiasco with Rolling Stone.

I understand and I get it. Sadly, too many by me think they are “Tony Soprano” Goombahs, complete with caddys or towncars. For the price of a cheap red hat, they go looking for trouble.

That morning, I’ll have that number up on my phone as soon as I take my key out of the ignition.

Twitter has suspended an account for tweeting intentionally incorrect information about being able to vote online.

Oh, I’ll have all of the info at the ready, and I live across the street from my polling place, and there are a lot of minorities in this precinct. So If I see anything questionable, I will be on the phone.

I don’t know if it was there when you posted the link but the story has been updated to indicate that the press conference has been called off because, according to her attorney, the woman has received threats and is afraid to appear in public.

Obviously we can’t know if she’s really received threats. I wouldn’t be surprised, given the violent tendencies of some Trump supporters.
