Mangetout got irked at me once for implying that he’d eat anything just becasue of his user name. But I was implying it admiringly. I can tell you that newly emerged cicadas taste vaguely of asparagus and can be quite nice. Unfortunately, I’ve since read that their body concentrates the toxins they absorb during their long underground sojourn, so eating them may not be wise. But they do taste good.

Crickets are similar, but they’re more chitinous.

I seem to recall a thread where Mangetout said he was looking into trying some insects, but I may be misremembering.

Actually, the day Clinton is inaugurated they can still say “The next president should choose because the Will of the People!”. There will be a next president. And their hope springs eternal that he’ll be R.

OTOH, if Trump should win then the mantra becomes “The People have spoken”.

The important thing to be clear on is that “the People” only includes R voters. Those other people may live here, but they aren’t Real Americans. They don’t count.

I think the line of thinking is: We’re the Great White Christians, and this is Our Country. All you people who disagree with us (and think you can make heads or tails of the unintelligible gibberish in the 1st Amendment, something about “Congress shall make no law…”, I really can’t follow it beyond that) are hereby labeled Liberals, and formally Disfellowshipped from Real America. Therefore, y’all don’t count. You’re out!

PHOENIX — Democrats fighting two Arizona laws that they say hinder minorities from voting received a major victory and a temporary setback from a federal appeals court Friday, just days before a tightening election in the traditionally red state.

The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals blocked a new state law that makes it a felony for groups to go door to door to collect early ballots and deliver them to the polls. It is an especially effective tactic in minority communities, and Democrats and some voters allege the law hurts minorities’ ability to vote.

The 11-judge panel said it was preserving the status quo for Tuesday’s election, which could come down to the wire in Arizona as Democrats spend heavily to get out the vote from Latinos and others angered by Donald Trump’s anti-immigrant comments.
