That would kind of limit your posting options.
It better be a VW Beetle.
And I’ll eat one of Happy does, but only if it’s because jsgoddess does. (I have have faith in her willpower. :D)

They’re doing the same thing that the evangelicals and Libertarians are doing. They’re voting for Trump anyway.

More like Dick Tuck’s immortal “The people have spoken, the bastards.”
After Hillary wins, the Republicans should confirm Merrick Garland in a hurry, before Obama leaves office and Hillary nominates someone less GOP-friendly.
Neither George W. Bush or his father want to be within any distance of Trump. President and Mrs. Obama are enthusiastically campaigning by Sec. Clinton’s side. She even has Bernie Sanders with her. Who’s being embarrassed? It seems that Trump’s biggest campaigners are his wife, and his children, and his running mate, Mike Pence. Nobody else wants to associate with him.
All this talk of who will eat a bug (and what kind of bug it should be) reminds me of this Dilbert strip, which now makes me sad given Scott Adams’s recent insanity.
IMO this depends a bit on which way the Senate goes.
For sure if the next Senate is D-dominated they’ll take Garland in a [del]NY[/del] DC minute.
If it’s still R they may fancy their chances at holding out for 4 more years until the People have Spoken Correctly (i.e. Rightly). After all they’ll be busy with impeachment proceedings starting on Jan 21. Yeah, yeah, that’s in the House. But the Senate will be mesmerized by the spectacle.
I declare that I wouldn’t even eat a bug on a bun. Not even for an exemplary SDMB performance review.
Rudy has been stumping for him on the news shows.
The only way to win is not to play.
It’s only two years until the voters have another shot at turning the senate (further) democratic. Approximately 1/3 of senators’ seats are in play every 2 years.
The 2018 senate map is very bad for the Democrats. Very few Republicans are up for reelection that year, and lots of Democrats are in red states.
This was their only really good year for taking control, and they may have blown it. ![]()
Kind of tough though. The 33 senate elections in 2018 includes 23 that are currently Dem and 2 are independents who caucus with them.
You need a kitten break. We all need a kitten break.
Plus, the party that wins the White House tends to fare poorly in the next midterms. Re: Clinton in 1992 then the 1994 midterms; Obama in 2008 then the 2010 midterms.
So Hillary will see a further red Congress in 2018.
Why does everyone always forget about Chachi? Sad!
Not really.
“Conservatives” turn themselves into whatever the rage machine spits out. The Tea Party and Trump may differ some on economics but not really. In any case, they both represent a movement to preserve white America’s place at the top of the social, economic, and political hierarchy.
Does PEC have any state-by-state analysis that shows what percentage of the vote Wang expects each presidential candidate to get in each state? What other popular sites do - besides 538? Wednesday I’d like to check on how close each site was to the actual result in that state (whether off by .4% and called it wrong, or called it correctly and off by 5%).
This could actually turn out to be good news. Let’s just once and for all do away with fantasies of having a democratic senate and accept that Hillary Clinton is going to be a target for right wing fanaticism. The sooner we can have this clash of civilizations the better off we’ll all be better for it, and in 2018 we can let the voters decide once and for all: Do they want a government of radicals who do nothing but shut down the government, talk of impeachment, and spend tens of millions of tax dollars on investigations to nowhere, or do they want something better? Maybe think about what kind of country for their children and grandchildren just about to enter college or enter the job market. Of course, who knows, maybe they’ll blame Hillary Clinton for not capitulating and resigning. After all, most conservatives do have a tendency to blame women for being assaulted rather than those who actually carry out the abuse.
But fuck it, let it happen. And let the consequences speak for themselves. The stock market will certainly have something to say about this. People’s 401Ks and retirement portfolios might have something to add as well. Foreign aggressors like Russia and China would love nothing more than to see an American president so distracted with nonsense that they can pretty much bully and harass their neighbors. This needs to stop being an abstraction and instead needs to become a painful reality for all of us. As I’ve said, when the average sitcom watching moron can be disabused of the notion that “They’re all equally bad” then maybe we’ll start becoming a functional democracy again, but right now, we’re so screwed. We’re screwed with Trump. We’re screwed without him.
Yes. Yes they do. There is no accountability. The GOP has literally announced they are going to obstruct, obstructed, shut down the government, and pointed to “Washington politics and corruption” as the problem that only they can fix. They aren’t being held accountable now because most people just aren’t paying attention. Why would they ever be held accountable? It can’t get any more hypocritical.
