Clinton v Trump - The Stretch Run Thread

It doesn’t help that I’ve been watching “10 Ways the world will end” on The History Channel. One of the “ways” is Nuclear Holocaust. That coupled with Trump and his ego has me seriously freaked out.

Both of these clowns are losers.

But I have come to respect how hard Trump is fighting in these ending weeks. It’s his own fault for burning all the bridges to his own party. But he and Pence haven’t given up and they’ve made this a competitive race.

Watching the establishment try to drag Hillary across the finish line to a victory is eye opening. I think Obama and Biden are campaigning harder now then they did in 2012.

She darn well better win.

Yep.

I keep thinking in the event that Trump wins, and there’s a nuclear holocaust, it will be his supporters who will probably survive. It just seems like Trump supporters are more likely to be “preppers”. That hardly seems fair that they will have caused this, yet they get to survive.

I’m driving myself crazy, can’t wait until this is over.

Well we are down to the final days. In about 80 hours, we should have a new POTUS.

I haven’t been following this thread but am guessing it’s been mostly pro Clinton, right?

It is mostly about eating bugs at this point. I nominate centipedes as especially grody.

Honey it’s too late now, but at times like these, it’s best to just step away from the news, and the threads. You’ll feel better.

Do remember that Bush was really just the puppet figurehead for the Neo-Cons thatbrwallybran the government, like Cheney, Rumsfeld and Wilfowitz.

Smartest, hippest people on the planet plus a few total dipsticks.

Nobody goes there any more, it’s too crowded.

I certainly don’t see it that way. Trump toots his own horn, but there really aren’t any people with any credibility speaking up on his behalf. Hillary on the other hand has endorsements from some very wise people. These two candidates are not equal in terms of qualifications for the job. Teumpnis nog even within ten blocks of the ball park. He’s a faker, a fraud. He’s illiterate and knows nothing about government. One needs to be able to read and comprehend in order to do this job.

Defending the Republic is the job of every public official:

5 U.S. Code § 3331 - Oath of office

I don’t know WTF teumpnis nog is. Meant to say “Trump is not.”

Its a Serbian epithet roughly translated as “Your Mom is boinking a rich American asshole!”.

Spiegel has a great story on the election. Interesting to see how Europe views our politics.

Their cover of 2 mud caked candidates is very cool.

Excellent article that lays bare the nastiness of the 2016 election. It is a bit disconcerting that Europe has a front row seat to our political meltdown. I hope they’ve sold a lot of popcorn.

Shrimp are basically bugs, aren’t they? I’m a vegetarian, but I’ll eat some batter fried shrimp for the cause.

I live near the wonderful Butterfly House, where you can see lots of insects, including butterflies and moths. I’ll eat anything in that building if it will help ensure Trump doesn’t win.

At this point, I’d piss on a spark plug if I thought it would do any good.

Yes, it is embarrassing for America that we have so many idiots voting for Trump.

Though I can sympathize with anyone trying to calm and comfort themselves in the face of a potential Trump presidency, I believe that the sentiments quoted above are wildly over-optimistic. For one thing:

How realistic is it to believe that those with access to power in a Trump administration will all be selfless servants of democracy and the rule of law?

Isn’t it much more likely that a critical mass of them will be, you know, people chosen by Trump? The sort of people who will pledge to prioritize kissing his butt, and then will be free to take any and all actions calculated to profit themselves?–starting wars, suppressing civil rights, surveilling those who might threaten their power…?

The argument that Trump will be helpless and ineffectual and easily reined in by those around him seems to me to be extraordinarily weak. (Moreover it’s an argument being used by those urging that people vote for Trump on the rationale that ‘it won’t be all that bad if he’s elected.’)

If this isn’t a WarGames reference, it should be.

I’ll say one other thing: Trump isn’t that special. He’s about on a level with Berlusconi, or one of the Le Pen tribe, or any number of other xenophobic and outright racist European politicians. The fact he has a following here doesn’t make Americans worse than others, it just means that our country, taken as a whole, is no better, and mostly not even very different.

I wonder what Tea Partiers are doing this election cycle. Trump is about as far from a Tea Party approved candidate that you can get.
