What about “second amendment solution”?
You are quite welcome.
I have been voting since 1980. For the first time in my life, the election process has stressed me out so badly that I’m now on a news moratorium. I have 23 hours of cooking shows on the DVR to watch after work that will sooth my soul until Wednesday morning. I’ve already voted, so everything is out of my hands.
I hope that sanity prevails, but I’m not betting my house on the outcome.
I’m also hearing that Trump was rushed off the stage due to a false shout of gun by someone in the audience; no gun was found on the man they escorted out of the rally. I’d enjoy some shaudenfreude if he was another Black Trump supporter who was wrongly identified as a thug.
Even if it was a protester, it sure is interesting to see how Trump’s entourage reacts to such discontent. It seems he’s put his Secret service detail on edge. I can only imagine their opinion of this responsibility.
Why do you say that - I mean, getting the candidate off-stage when people in the crowd are calling out “gun” doesn’t seem edgy to me, so is there something else you are referring to?
Also, there was video of the guy escorted out - I saw a still-photo that said it was from that - white guy. Not at all certain if he’s the guy that had the sign or someone else involved, though. He’s been released.
The latest report is that the man who was ushered out of a Trump rally was a protester holding up a sign “Republicans Against Trump.” People tried to pull down the sign, which led to a scuffle and the erroneous “gun” comment, leading to Trump’s removal from the stage. The man had no gun, was questioned, and has been released.
I imagine the Secret Service details are very much on edge this last weekend. Both candidates have a lot of quick stops around the country. Keeping them safe isn’t easy.
Very glad Trump’s scare apparently was a false alarm.
He was a protestor – his sign was “Republicans Against Trump”
Fair enough. I don’t know who yelled gun; whether it was another bystander or a jittery agent. I just thought that rushing Trump off the stage was dramatic, given the real story seems to be that no weapon was seen and nobody was physically threatening Trump. It’s a far cry from how protesters are usually responded to, IMHO. It’s almost like they are expecting a shooter to show up eventually.
And you are right - the guy is white.
Standard protocol is to get the candidate away from any possible danger. You don’t waste time evaluating the situation. That’s what the other agents are for.
That’s makes sense. I’m certainly not faulting their behavior. I guess it was his proximity to the stage that engendered the reaction. But, hecklers aren’t unusual in politics; the secret service rushing the speaker off stage is.
Bolding is mine.
I don’t think so. I’m confident shouting “GUN” at the top of my lungs while standing in the audience at an appearance by anyone under Secret Service protection would get a similarly energetic response.
After all, it is their job.
Very nice - thanks. I needed that.
Or you could, y’know, volunteer for the candidate of your choice in these last few crucial days.
Isn’t Nevada an open carry state?
Really? They’re not gonna let you bring in guns to a rally surrounding a candidate for the POTUS.
Or anyone under Secret Service protection.
Why not? What’s he afraid of?
You could check out www.electoral-vote.com. It’s not a predictor/odds like 538, but a polling aggregate, state by state.
In the 8th year of the first Black President, we should all take a moment and appreciate just how amazingly good at their job the US Secret Service truly is.
I think it is fair to assume that nearly everyone who hates President Obama has a gun, and the Secret Service has prevented all those people from accomplishing their most fervent wish.
Seriously, these men and women have proven themselves to be incredibly competent, and are a living rebuke to all those who disrespect agencies of the federal government.
By the way, I’m in Missouri, an “Open Carry” state. All you have to do is put up a sign that you cannot bring a weapon into the place.
It’s been an absolute boon to the sign business.
And I’m not certain a gun owner would be legally required to comply.
Why not, if the proprietor makes it a condition of being invited into the place?
