Clinton v Trump - The Stretch Run Thread

Checked my news sites before I got here. It is as reported above, the guy was just a guy with a sign that Trump did not like.

(Sources agree that his instruction to “take him out” was simply a manner of saying to remove him from the premises. There is wide agreement that the Secret Service is not under the direct tactical command of a Presidential nominee.)

Just some guy, doesn’t like Trump.

Anyway…

Brave, brave, brave Sir Donald.

New Zealand’s looking pretty good right about now.

This really does sum up the state of the campaigns doesn’t it:

Obama is campaigning for Clinton, when a protester starts shouting. Obama tells the crowd to chill, tells them the man should be respected because of his age, and that he looks like he might be a veteran. Trump then spins this as “Obama shouted at the protester like a crazy man”

At a Trump rally an unarmed protester holds up a sign, is beaten up and hauled out by secret service because one of his assaulters yells “gun!” Trump campaign spins this as “Someone tried to murder Trump”

They do not live in a reality based world.

Well, yeah, but all the Hobbit movies are made now, and their only sources of export income is the sale of insanely aggressive and/or venomous marsupials and spiders.

Come and visit - we’ll teach you how to shag sheep, eat BBQ snags and drink beer

His opponent’s supporters.

You guys sure you’re not from Texas? You sound like the Island of the Aggies.

As I said in another thread, those of you who are anti-Trump and stressed out might want to consider taking a page from Fox News conservatives and embrace the information bubble for a while. Read liberal/Clinton supporting blogs only. They’re more likely to have positive headlines and analyses, and that may tide you over until Tuesday.

This is one of those interesting statistics - things that mathematically ought to be much more common but aren’t. There are a large number of people who would no doubt like to kill the POTUS, yet nobody has even ever *fired a shot *at Obama - or at George W. Bush, Bill Clinton, or Bush Sr. You have to go all the way back to Hinckley’s attempt to kill Reagan to find an instance of someone firing a gun at the POTUS.

Amazing. 30+ years, four presidents since, thousands of people who probably want to kill the POTUS, lots of access to guns, and yet nobody’s even fired a shot.

It is amazing. Nothing for 30+ years. Consider the 20 years from Reagan’s shooting, there were five incidents of shootings at POTUSes and POTUS candidates.

1981-03-30: Reagan, in Washington DC, shot by John Hinckley.
1975-09-22: Ford, in San Francisco, fired at by Sara Jane Moore.
1975-09-05: Ford, in Sacramento, fired at by Lynnette Fromme.
1972-05-15: George Wallace, in Laurel MD, shot by Arthur Bremer. Wallace paralyzed. Bremer had made attempts to assassinate Nixon, including bringing a gun to a Nixon speech in Ottawa ON.
1963-11-22: Kennedy, in Dallas, shot and assassinated by Lee Harvey Oswald.

Trump’s idiot supporters are now accusing Hillary of not being tough enough to be president because… because she cut short a Florida rally due to heavy rain!

Trump, however, – the guy so insecure and hypersensitive that he sues everyone who ever dares criticize him – continues to prove how tough he is: “Trump is back on stage minutes after assassination attempt”. [This is according to the hallucinatory alternate reality embraced by the son Donald Trump Jr.](Trump is back on stage minutes after assassination attempt), affectionately known as Douchebag von Fuckface. The “assassination attempt” turned out to be a guy with a protest sign, who was naturally attacked and roughed up by Trump’s illustrious supporters, as they always do, and who accused him of having a gun. Which he did not have. He was interviewed and released without charges, since it turns out that it’s not illegal to have a protest sign. But such is the reality in Trumpland that Trump is now being touted as having heroically survived an assassination attempt.

I’ve noticed this, too.

In the span of 18 years, a president was assassinated (JFK), another was shot and came fairly close to dying (Reagan), and another president survived two assassination attempts over a few weeks (Ford). Plus, during that timeframe, another likely presidential nominee was assassinated (RFK), as were two prominent black civil rights activists (MLK, Malcolm X), and another presidential candidate was paralyzed in an assassination attempt (George Wallace).

And, then, as you note, not even a single shooting attempt at a president since.

For the love of Og, please, PLEASE don’t vote for the Orange One. And this coming from an Aussie woman…our media is flooded by your election, and it’s scares the shit out of me. Please vote…please PLEASE vote, and don’t let complacency get a look-in.

Fnark, scary times for the whole world…:frowning:

This might be a topic for its own thread, but I have to wonder dreamily how Elizabeth Warren would be doing right now if she were the Democratic nominee. I bet she’d be up by 30 pts. Electoral landslide. Clear majority in the Senate, and possibly taking back the House.

Sigh.

It was interesting to see big tough orange guy momentarily scared of something and running away.

Nate (538) is adjusting the Florida polls for a Trump win. HuffPo calls bullshit. Nate fires back on Twitter.

You seem to be forgetting that, according to the NRA, “gun-free zones” endanger the lives of patriotic Americans by depriving them of their right to defend themselves, and besides bad guys don’t pay attention to signs and the only thing that stops them is a good guy with a gun.

Lots of good guys with guns charged with the job of protecting both candidates. And the ones on Trump detail are probably thinking “I have to jump in front of a bullet for this yutz?”

Yeah. Government good guys, paid with your tax dollars, instead of letting the free market provide the solution!

It’s practically socialism, it is.
