Clinton v Trump - The Stretch Run Thread

There was a time he gave a shit about politics.

if he loses he and his family are completely done in politics.

He’s also a liar. Remember when he promised he’d be dead or in jail if Obama got re-elected?

I smell what you did there.

The whole blessed country can.

Kurt Eichenwald will begin tweeting the results of his six months of investigations into Trump tomorrow.

I hope Eichenwald and Farenthold both get Pulitzers.

I wish he would have started a few weeks ago.

Well, the first big revelation on that page doesn’t give me much confidence in his accuracy:

“Folks: My tech experts said long ago the WSJ report on 650k was BS because it was impossible for that much data to be on a single laptop.”

Even if each email was a megabyte long, which is extremely unlikely, that would make 650GB. I bought a fairly low-end laptop two years ago that has a 1 Terabyte drive. In other words, it is absolutely NOT impossible for that much data to be on a single laptop.

Reminds me of a magazine article headline in *Mad *many years ago: “I Clawed My Way to the Top - Why Can’t Those Other Punk Kids?” by David Eisenhower.

Except that was fake, and this is real.

Oddly enough, while Clinton seems to actually have gained a little in the polls in the last two days, the generic Congressional vote has continued to trend towards the GOP:

http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/other/2016_generic_congressional_vote-5279.html

The Senate races had also been trending GOP and there’s no sign of that trend abating in the final days either.

As I said in the other thread, someone wanting that result would have done exactly what Comey did. That fuckwad has given us at least four more years of complete gridlock.

Oh, the Congress won’t be completely inactive. There’s all those email hearings that need to be held.

Let’s not forget that Bush II had a potentially lethal shoe thrown at him!

And BTW, didn’t someone toss an actual grenade at him that turned out to be a dud?

Absolutely not. He’s a firework, not a candle; he bursts in short-term glory but is extinguished immediately and forgotten.

Plus, the GOP is no doubt going to reform their primary process once this thing is over, wall to wall. They will never allow a Trump again, and all GOP conventions from now on might be neck deep in superdelegates.

Presuming they don’t go the superdelegate route - what other methods might they use to prevent this happening again.

In any case, it’ll be interesting to see if this election has any impact that is both immediate and long-term on the parties. Is it “back to business as usual” for the GOP or will they change their primary structure? Establishment looks like they are back to heeding the Trump-base (not necessarily the religious, here, for sure), but will this remain the same after the election if he loses? Even if he gets more votes than Romney? On the other side, how many of those betrayed Bernie supporters that are acting out now were actually democrats before (ones that reliably voted)? If they were that, instead of bandwagon-jumpers who wouldn’t have lasted anyway, it’s much more of a loss.

What a wonderful way to depress turnout.

That, or split the party, when the Angry Scared White People base realizes it has no chance of ever getting another candidate past the nomination process.

IMO so long as the Republican Party exists, Angry Scared White People have a home.

A good deal of Trump support this year seems to be anti-Hillary than pro-Trump. So presumably if, say, the Republican nominee were Paul Ryan or Ted Cruz, they’d be showing up to vote against Hillary too.

Don’t underestimate anti-Democratic energy in the GOP; the fact that even a loathsome candidate like Trump is running within a few points of Hillary shows that they’ll turn out in droves to vote against any Democrat.

Based on Facebook memes over the weekend, the Trump campaign would have us believe the following re: who gets to share the stage with Donald:
*
Donald is the most fascinating man in the world, and can fill stadiums with 10s of thousands of fervent supporters all by himself.

However, it would be desirable to have someone else there to sing his praises as well. But this person shouldn’t be an A-list celebrity. While every celebrity in the world would give their eye teeth to be next to Donald, and hope that some of his aura rubs off on them, we can’t have Donald overshadowed.

To see Hillary share the spotlight with the likes of Beyonce and LeBron James smacks of desperation – it’s the only way she can get people to show up at her pathetic rallies.

Therefore, Donald needs someone who’s name is recognizable, but just barely. Someone like…Ted Nugent.*

I swear, they fall for this shit.

The nightmare for Republicans is that, after tomorrow, Donald Trump is more likely to blame Paul Ryan for his loss than Hillary Clinton.
