It wasn’t a dud, just fortuitously prevented from working as intended, and it actually didn’t get close enough to W to even potentially hurt him. It did land close to the Georgian president, his wife, and Laura Bush, though, not to mention the rest of the surrounding crowd, so it certainly would have been a great tragedy if the grenade attack had worked as intended.
Certainly makes one wonder in a secret ballot election just how much everyone seems to know about who voted and how.
