Brent Scowcroft, national security advisor to Ford and Bush the Elder, thinks Hillary would make a better POTUS than Trump: http://www.cnn.com/2016/06/22/politics/hillary-clinton-brent-scowcroft-endorsement/index.html
This has been the biggest laugh I’ve had in months. Easily.
Anyway, every population has a crazification factor
So the SDMB crazification factor is less than 5%. That’s down in the noise in most polls, and it’s apparently only part of the “Not A Democrat” boost a candidate can expect from SDMB members.
I would place the probability at well over fifty percent.
If you haven’t already, you’ll want to have a look here: http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=794045
Someone needs to post a “Trump vs. Turnip in a little hat” poll.
A fresh, clean turnip, with a very clear delineation between the purple and cream colored ends?
No contest, especially if the little hat is a poor fitting toque.
At least a turnip will never insult POWs, immigrants, women or Scots.
I clicked Clinton in the poll, but my insights from Thailand may give a hint why some Americans (probabaly not Dopers?) might prefer Trump.
Thailand often elects criminals and fraudsters to be Prime Minister. Engaging the natives in political discussion, I was surprised to learn that they knew the man they were voting for was a criminal. The explanation for their support is simple: it takes a lot of talent to become a billionaire criminal, and they want a talented man in charge.
For example, consider Trump University. Any libtard academic could probably develop a good University if he spends to hire good teachers, etc. But it takes great talent to get rich from a University which is just a fraud.
I vaguely understand this bad argument, but am surprised people would expect a selfish fraudster to suddenly convert to unselfish public service upon election.
I actually do have a theory about the 5%, and it’s actually rational:
Trump is always willing to talk to the press, and he routinely embarrasses himself when he does.
Clinton won’t talk to the press. 200 days since her last press conference(where she embarrassed herself). True to form, the Clinton campaign even lies to the press about how much they’ve talked to the press. I’m pretty sure the press knows whether she’s answering their questions or not.
So who do you prefer? The guy who is always willing to answer questions, but sounds like an idiot when he does, or the lady who isn’t wiling to answer questions, but on the few occasions she does, also embarrasses herself(albeit in a different way).
While avoiding the media is a smart political strategy, it does speak to her fitness for the Presidency that she is unwilling to answer questions.
