Closed threads

When a thread is closed, does that mean the topic is considered utterly verboten, or can the topic be brought up by someone else after a “cooling off” period?

I’m referring to a case where an administrator pitted an acquaintance over a thread that raised his ire. It was closed quickly, presumably because of the potential for ugliness between and among long-time posters and moderators.

Is that subject, or the pitting itself, a dead-forever topic on the SDMB? I ask more out of curiosity than for personal guidance. I don’t care to be the one to reopen that topic, although I do have a contribution to make should it come up again.

One should probably email the moderator (or any administrator) who closed the thread and ask if it’s ok with them to open a new thread on the topic. That’s what I would do, just to be on the safe side.

Yes, if you have a question about a particular subject, especially if it’s been something that was closed down already, an email to any or all of us would be appropriate before you started in.

We’re happy to guide you.
