Cobra Kai Season 2 discussion thread

The trailer for season 2 of Cobra Kai was just released.

My initial thoughts.

It’s looking like the season will focus on competition between the two dojos as well as the further development of Johnny’s son. Perhaps a budding romance between him and Samantha? Wouldn’t that be interesting.

It also looking like Cobra Kai is upping it’s game. With Kreese back in the fold, I think it’s looking like a return to Cobra Kai’s old ways. It will be interesting to see how Johnny deals with this.

What are your thoughts?

It looks like Danny’s daughter will be the source of rivalry between the two dojos, since the top student at each has a romantic interest in her.

Kreese showing up is annoying, as they clearly said he was dead in season one, and I liked the theme of both Johnny and Danny dealing with the influence of their dead mentors.

One thing I look forward to seeing is more on the narrative that Daniel-san is actually sort of a dick, too, and I want to see more of the people around him call him out on it.

Cobrai Kai and Impulse (to a far lesser extent) are the only Youtube originals I’ve liked; look forward to seeing season two.

Something else I look forward to seeing is how the relationship will play out between Samantha and her long time friend (I don’t remember her name) that is in Cobra Kai.

Now that Season 2 has been released, what do you all think?

I’m only up to episode 8, but I think this season has been phenomenal! Johnny has really made some progress as a person. I think he still has a long way to go. I’m not surprised to see Samantha and Robby have a romance. I figured that was going to happen sometime back in Season 1. I also like how they are developing the character of Demitri this season. I see the potential there for a lot of character development with him.

I absolutely positively love both seasons I thought they were well done… But the one thing I just can’t get past… Daniel’s wife seems a bit self-centered…it’s like she’s coming off as a gold digger or something I don’t know maybe it’s just me…lol

I guess I’m not seeing that. I think she had some legitimate gripes about Daniel not spending so much time at work or with family. However, to just say, “No more karate”, is very short sighted for her.

I’m about halfway through and I have mixed feelings about Cobra Kai. It’s well done for what it is, but…

I could frankly do without all the karate stuff. Makes me think of Power Rangers.

Don’t find most of the kids very interesting, I don’t even find Ralph Macchio’s character terribly interesting.

The John Kreese character coming back has been mostly predictable, but perhaps necessary.

The only thing keeping me watching this show is Johnny Lawrence, his journey through life and the fact that he’s kind of the good guy now. I could imagine it being done in another context and still being interesting. I just watched the episode where he hangs out with his terminally ill friend and there are some interesting snippets of back story there and how the teenage Cobra Kai came to disavow the Kreese philosophy. Would like to hear more about that.

I’m hoping that there isn’t a squeaky clean, resolve everything ending to this show. It’s the characters’ ambiguity that is compelling to me.

Well, she did marry a guy who still looks and acts like he hasn’t gone through puberty even though he’s in his 50s and owns a chain of luxury car dealerships. Then he pretty much neglects her and the business while she deals with everything.
