This commercial was from somewhere between 2003 and 2007. It was a Coca Cola commercial where this white boy and his black girlfriend (or girl he’s dating) are standing in line to buy movie tickets. The boy can’t find his wallet, so the girl tells him to retrace where he’s been in the last few hours.
He basically goes over how they started their day, decided to go to a movie, ate dinner first, etc etc., and as he does we see the events on screen as a mini flashback. Then when he gets to the part where he and the girl are crossing the street to the movie theater, he casually says “Then while we were crossing the street, we died.” We see them standing in the road while a mack truck comes barreling at them.
So now he remembers that he and his girlfriend (or girl he’s dating) just died a minute ago, and they realize that the movie theater is now heaven (when they go in the specific theater for their movie, everyone in the theater is an angel with wings, ha ha). The end.
I can’t find this commercial online. Please let me know if you remember this ad and if there’s any copy of it online I could watch. This has to be the most surprising and risque ad that Coca Cola, a money-grubbing major corporation known for never offending anyone, ever created, and it was a great piece of cinematic surprise and shocking twist ending, not to mention dark comedy and bizarre but happy ending. Aw man, what a commercial.
Aw crap, I accidentally posted this in BBQ Pit instead of Cafe Society.
This occurred because even though I went into Cafe Society to post, I had to delete another message I was gonna post to BBQ Pit before I could type it, because you can’t start a new topic if you have a… dammit, what’s the button that appears instead of “New Topic” if you have an Open Draft already typed up that you haven’t posted yet? Dammit, that’s why this happened, please move it to Cafe, thanks.
This was a real Coca-Cola commercial? This is really dark. This does not in any way increase my urge to drink a carbonated beverage.
Are you sure this was real? I can’t find anything close in an online search, and I have never seen it or heard of it. You’d think something like this would have been noteworthy at the time. My guess is… Never happened.
No, this was a real commercial, but it only ran for a short time, and it was way back in the year 2003, probably. And yes, it WAS a Coca Cola commercial, not Pepsi or Gatorade or any other company more likely to make a risque commercial like that.
While searching, I just found a Coca Cola commercial from 2013 that parodies Grand Theft Auto (videogame).
Proof that the Coca Cola company does take risque risks once in a while.
Because it’s shocking but also darkly humorous, and has a happy/mainstream-spirituality “heaven exists and good people go there” ending, and is cinematic and entertaining, which is fitting because the characters are going TO THE CINEMA where they were probably going to watch a movie with bizarre surprise twists just like what ended up happening TO THEM IN REAL LIFE (Sixth Sense, anyone?), and it’s an awesome commercial and takes place at a movie theater and we all know how much Coca Cola advertises their soda at the movies, and…
At what point in the commercial does the coke come in? If this was really a coke commercial, at some point you would have to see the protagonist drinking the product.
Oh and BTW, the GTA parody commercial is hardly what I would call risque. It’s actually quite sweet. Something you would expect from a Coca-Cola commercialm
This does sound vaguely familiar to me, but I didn’t really watch commercials in the time period given, so I would suspect it is something else. Memory can play tricks on us. It’s pretty common to misremember what a commercial was for, or to remember something as the wrong media, or remembering a parody or spoof as real. It’s even easy to wind up combining different parts into a new whole.
My suggestion to the OP would be to remove the Coca-Cola part from your searches.
