It’s the one for Pepsi where the guy puts the sandwich and can of Pepsi on the kitchen counter and walks out of the frame.
Then the theme from Secret Agent Man kicks in.
*Then a dog puts his paws up on the counter and grabs the sandwich, then drops out of the frame, while chewing sounds are heard.
Dog puts his paws on the counter again, snags the Pepsi, drops out of the frame.
Cue sound of can being popped open and Pepsi being drunk.
Then we hear the annoyed yawp of a cat, followed by dog with cat it it’s mouth putting dog on plate that formerly held sandwich. Dog drops out of frame, while cat just sits there.*
Cut to Pepsi logo.
*Secret Agent Man plays during this entire sequence.
I recently saw this ad… don’t know if it’s new or if I’m the last person on the planet to see it.
We see a guy and a girl, out at some restaurant. The guy’s friend walks by, sees them, and says, “Hey, Bob! How ya doin’?” He sits down, the guy (Bob) introduces them - “This is Cindy, we’re engaged!”
“Ah,” says the friend, “Bob’s a good catch…”
Then the video freezes, and the words, “This Would Be A Good Time To Stop” appear on the screen. Then the video continues, and the friend says, “… And he was a good catch for three hundred girls back in college, too! Hey, man, remember Cheryl? So hot… she still talks about you, you want her number?”
It’s an ad for batteries. There’s a little girl singing at a recital. The voiceover talks about how even rock stars use their batteries for their concerts, but even the smaller performers use the coppertop.
There’s a shot of the pretty little girl and in her sweet little girl voice she sings “Glory hole, glory hole. . .”
O.K. She’s not really saying “Glory Hole” but I’ll be damned if I know what it is she’s really singing. Glory Hole makes it a much better commercial.
I like the Verizon commercial the guy getting a picture message of a kidnapped squirrel. The squirrel statue has a black blindfold over it’s eyes and the voice says something like “you have something I want.” And then, they show the squirrel on a diving board like it’s getting pushed into a swimming pool. At the end, the guy getting the messages, meets another guy at the shrubs separating the two houses and he exchanges hedge clippers for the statue. I always chuckle when I see that commercial.
The Honda “it must be love” commercial. Just music, shots of Honda cars, and simultaneous head shots of people who look like the Honda cars. One of the few commercials I will drop everything to watch.
“So buy her a beer, it’s the reason you’re here/mighty wingman”
My personal favorite was the Geico ad with the guys dog driving the truck.
Has anyone seen an ad for Linux that has a young kid sitting there while people tell him various stuff, then a voiceover says something to the effect of “He is the future. His name is Linux”? Neither my mother nor I watch much TV but she saw it a couple of days ago and mentioned it.
The one with the dad kidnapping the poor computer store worker completely cracks me up, the whole scenario is perfect. And I do like the guy who’s undercutting all of the kids in his neighborhood to buy his new piece of electronic equipment.
I’ve only seen it once so far, but this one is great:
A woman is laying on her bed, with a concerned look on her face. She seems to be restless and worrying about something. There’s a shot of her head, and the word “pillow” appears on the pillow under her head. Next a shot of her hand, and the word “sheets” appears on the sheets. The woman gets a small smile on her face and rolls onto her side, and you see she is petting a dog. The word “comforter” appears over the dog.
And then it goes to a black screen with white text saying “Adopt a pet.” From the Humane Society.
I also like the Nyquil commercial with the husband trying to give his wife the cold medicine. He tells her she’ll sleep like they did before they had kids. It’s the image that she thinks of when he says it that gets me.
The song is Going Home - based on Dvorak’s New World Symphony.
And she’s singing “going home” though your lyrics give the song a whold new meaning! (pun kinda intended)
Favorite commercials are the Turner Classic Movies ads with odd groups of people redoing famous movies - elementary kids doing Ben Hur or retirement home doing Rocky. Just too funny.
I like the pepsi commercial with Dave Chapelle where he’s at his date’s house waiting for her to finish getting ready to go out. This little automatic vacuum appears and picks up a chip that he’s dropped. Intrigued, he starts messing with it and teasing it with his can of pepsi. The little robot vacuum gets mad and attacks him, sucking up his pants. When the date comes in, he’s standing there in his underwear with a pepsi trying to look cool and says “Your vacuum cleaner ate my pants. There was nothing I could do.” I just love the way he says it. You’ve got to see it to appreciate it.
The commercial for Visa, I think, where you can win access to a personal assistant or some such. The wife rattles off a list of stuff she had to do and her husband asks her if she’s going to do that. “No. I’ll just get my personal assistant.”
The commercial itself is okay, but the woman’s facial expression just kills me.
Hmm, no golfers have checked in here yet, I guess…
I personally love the new Tiger Woods’ NIKE commercials, both with the talking head cover. Particularly the one showing Charles Barkley and his godawful swings. “Was that a practice swing or a siezure?” “Cleanup on aisle five!”.
(The best part about that commercial is that that’s really the way Charles Barkley swings a golf club. I’ve seen him on TV in a couple of “Celebrity golf” tournaments. I have to admire him just for letting folks see it.)
(The one where Tiger’s head cover is in the clubhouse trying to pick up a female tiger head cover is pretty good, too.)
