new favorite commercial

I have to admit I’m charmed by the Pepsi ad with the girl in the big hot dog costume who meets up with the boy in the big Pepsi-cup costume. That’s mainly because I still, after ten years or so, totally love that Blind Melon song.

Pepsi must be doing something right; I think I’m the third to chime in on this thread with one of theirs.

Hot damn, jackelope, that Blind Melon video is the first thing that popped into my head when I saw that commercial too!

As for my pick:
It’s another commercial from Southwest Airlines … It’s the one where there is a young fellow sitting at a conference table with a somewhat mousy woman sitting next to him. He’s sort of staring down and he says softly, “I don’t know if this is the best time to say this, but you’re really beautiful.”

The woman sort of blushes and says, “Well, I’ve always been attracted to you too, Paul.”

Then Paul covers up the hands free mike to the phone he was using … “Just a second, babe” and turns to the woman … “What?!?”

Voice-over: “Want to get away?”

… uuuhhh … or is that Blind Melon song actually playing during the commercial?

If so, it would make sense that the video popped into my head, all while displaying my stunningly horrible short term memory.

I like the Best Buy commercial where the guy is buying a big screen TV and says, ‘I gotta have this for Saturday." The BEst Buy guy asks, "Whta’ Saturday." Cut to a big party with the Best Buy guy looking on when the customer climbs on some speakers and then “stagedives” onto the floor with a loud thud. Cut back to Best Buy and the worker points out some small speakers,
“You might want to try these here, they’re…”
“Shorter?”
“Yeah, shorter,shorter is better.”

I agree on all three of Pepsi’s current advertisements under the “It’s the Cola” slogan. The idea of soda going good with food has never been so humorously depicted.

I also like the Target ad with all the famous food mascots, down on their luck and in ordinary places, until the fateful day they all banded together and came to a new place…the food section in larger Target stores.

Yeah, it’s playing during the commercial. Even if it weren’t, I think the girl in the hot dog costume would still be reminiscent of the Bumblebee Girl in the video.

But yeah, it’s playing. And I’m laughing.

What is it, a Visa ad? where the guy is sitting in his easy chair talking about buying a leather bustier in an obviously lip synched Vallley Girl voice . . . the inconguity of the voice and his face is always good for a chortle.

Any idea what agency’s doing the Pepsi ads?

The Miller Lite ad with all the people falling like dominoes. That cracks me up.

Good point. What would the campaign be without the agency to guide it? Congratulations to BBDO Worldwide, New York.

The Comedy Central ad with “The Holidays”.

The Brett Favre “Monday Morning Quarterback” ad. “I’d’ve gone with vanilla with that sweater.” Heh.

Reminds me of a story I heard Barkley tell on the radio one time about playing golf with Tiger Woods. Tiger had honors (duh) and Charles hit after him.

Tiger asked, “Hey, did you see where they’re building that new Super Wal-Mart?”
Charles said, “Cool, no! Where?”
“Between my ball and your ball.”

I use that whenever I can. Unfortunately I’m usually the butt of the joke.

That one’s great, but the one with the old lady skimming the pool is even better. It’s the laugh at the end that cracks me up!

I second the Brett Favre ad. Good stuff.

Another good one is the Best Buy ad with the guy standing next to a Trans Am(?), wearing a polo shirt with the collar up and “Sister Christian” is playing. I don’t know what the end of the commercial is, but I love that cheesy-80s image.

You all are probably going to make fun of me for this, but when I first saw this ad I thought it was an advertisement for a new Eminem CD. The kid has the same white t-shirt, jeans, and short bleached hair as Eminem.

Think about that next time you see it. He really does look like an Eminem clone.

I love his VCR with remote, which is attached to the VCR itself with a long cord. I laugh hysterically at this because we actually had a VCR from Montgomery Wards with a remote on a cord. It had two settings: “On/play and Off/pause.” HILARIOUS! (It also only had settings for 13 channels. If you wanted to record something on a higher channel you had to open a hatch on the top of the machine and work a bunch of switches and dials around until you found your channel, then you would place one of the numbered stickers helpfully provided over that button so you could remember what channel it was set to.)

I like the Jack in the Box commercial where the deli guy won’t sell him food. I like how he goes through about 15 expressions and his kid just stands there with that sweet smile on his face. I had one of the sandwiches though and they really suck. I was pretty disappointed because the way I imagined it tasting from the picture and the way it actually tasted were not even close.

I also love the one where the woman in her late 30s/early 40s is accosted by her former teenage self while Yaz’s “Situation” is playing in the background. The teenager is disgusted by the minivan until she sees what kind of minivan it is, and the cute husband.

Makes me feel old, though - I used to dance to “Situation” all the time back in the day. sigh

And the Pillsbury Dough Boy/cell phone ad is priceless, too. The poor little guy bats a pea between his feet and acts so resigned when the cell phone guy wants to give him a poke.

…pinkish…kinda green…

I like most of the commercials mentioed here. The one with the kidnapped squirrel is great.

They’ve recently begun replaying the M&M commercial that was voted all time best; the one where the three M&M characters are sitting around the store eating bags of M&M’s and another customer tells them it’s “unnatural to eat your own kind”.

Better than that: That IS the Bee girl. Swear.
