Cocoa prices skyrocket! What does this mean for chocoholics?

Even before the Ivory Coast unrest started increasing cocoa prices, I’d heard a lot about such a development happening (for reasons unrelated to civil unrest). I don’t remember if the stated reason was dwindling supply vs. increasing demand, or something else.

Does this mean chocolate will become more and more of a luxury item, like it used to be? Or will it do like some people say will happen to oil, and alternatives developed?

In other words…

WHERE THE HELL WILL I GET MY FIX?!?!?!?!

Note to self, stock up on Godiva, QUICk!!!

This is Lynn Bodini the Pit Moderator
This is Lynn Bodini the Pit Moderator sans chocolate…

Nooooooooooooo!

Expect shady characters in dark street corners whispering ‘hey pal, want some Peter Beier?’ . Expect goverment worldwide to start ‘the war on chocolate trafficking’.

Expect Starbuck’s to immediately double their prices on anything with the word ‘chocolate’ or ‘mocha’(even when it refers to the coffee) in its name, effective immediately.

I will liquidate my IRA before I ever go a day without chocolate.
Which should get me a weeks worth of Hershey’s kisses.
Feh.
