Coen Brothers: "Inside Llewyn Davis" (No Spoilers in OP)

I just saw Inside Llewyn Davis this weekend.
Really good movie. Excellent by any standards other than Coen Brothers standards. I’m still digesting it, but I’m thinking I’ll only end up ranking it “good” by Coen Brothers standards. I am always really excited for a new Coen Brothers movie and this one didn’t quite rise to my expectations- but, again, it was excellent by any other standards.

John Goodman was a highlight.
Another highlight was the studio recording scene that’s shown in the trailers.

I’m not familiar with lead actor Oscar Isaac’s other work, but he handled the music very well and he did a great job of making his character enjoyable to watch despite his severe flaws.

I tend to find spoiler boxes tiresome, but I’m pretty sure this movie is only in limited release at this time so I guess spoiler boxes should be used. This Thread may attract some people who haven’t had a chance to see it yey but are looking for a general sense of how the movie is.

I saw it a few weeks ago at a sneak preview and the lead actor was there for a Q&A. He’s a musician-turned-actor so the music part came easy for him. I’m with you, it ranks pretty low on my COEN movies I love list. Higher than The Ladykillers and Intolerable Cruelty, lower than The Man Who Wasn’t There.

People should NOT go in expecting an O Brother-level music film.
