Good news for us coffee drinkers
Coffee Decreases Diabetes Risk
Summary: The authors followed almost 42,000 men from 1986 to 1998 and 84, 000 women from 1980 to 1998. These participants did not have diabetes, cancer, or cardiovascular disease at the start. Coffee consumption was assessed every 2 to 4 years. The authors documented 1,333 new cases of type 2 diabetes in men and 4,085 new cases in women. The authors found an inverse association between coffee intake and type 2 diabetes after adjustment for age, body mass index, and other risk factors. Total caffeine intake from coffee and other sources was found to be associated with a statistically significantly lower risk for diabetes in both men and women.
Conclusion: Long-term coffee consumption is associated with a statistically significantly lower risk for type 2 diabetes.
I’ve seen studies saying that coffee increases insulin resistance, so the question is far from settled.

What’s more, in the short run coffee seems to impair, not improve, the body’s sensitivity to insulin, the hormone that helps cells take up blood sugar.
So in the short term coffee increases insulin resistance, but in the long term it might lower type 2 diabetes risk. The wonders of the human body.
I think I’ll go pour myself another cup.
I’m assuming that means black coffee, right? Adding cream and sugar ain’t gonna do you much good.
