Coldie does Cali!

I’m fine staying at the Ramada … it’s cheaper and Strainger gets bonus points

But it’s up to him where we stay, since we’re all travelling together, it makes more sense to all stay in the same hotel.

I’m with you Monster104, at some of those prices, I don’t think I can even afford a spot on the floor. I’ll have to just pass out somewhere and hope noboby can wake me.

Jim

We’re gonna sleep?!?!?!
Sheeeeesh!

Light-weights.

I still haven’t heard back from the Budget 9 Motel, but we can stretch to $60 a night for the weekend if there’s lots of people staying in a place at about that price range. Which hotel is looking the most likely for that?

And Shayna, thanks again for being so organised.

Fran
Still excited

The Ramada is fine with me. I think it looks like it’s closest to Shayna’s house anyway. I was mostly giving Jeff some crap.

The Ramada it is, then. I guess we’ll wait 'til Jeff gets back to reserve, so we can find out if we can get adjacent rooms.

boli, are you renting a car? If not let me know because I think we’re going to rent a minivan so we can haul people around like SLO. That way we can pick you up at the airport. Scotti is coming with us as well. Once I make sure we can get one, I’ll post back here in case anyone else is coming in around the same time that needs a ride.

Demo, that’s extremely thoughtful of you. I was thinking this would be a good trip where you could have a BREAK from shuttling people around! Dude, let yourself do some serious hardcore drinking and not worry about carting our sorry butts around.

Just because we want a room doesn’t mean we’re going to be sleeping in it. Sheesh!

boli, don’t worry about me. You know I’ll have a good time. Besides, it looks like everything’s pretty close. I mostly just want a way to get from the airport and around for buying booze and such. Anyway, I know why you want me to get drunk!

Ok, I just reserved a minivan at LAX. Scotti and boli, I’ll talk to you about where and when we’ll meet at the airport. I figure we’ll have room for 2 or 3 others, if you’re coming in around the same time. Reserve your places now! Again, psy and I will be getting in around 12:30 or so.

Demo, I’d love to have a seat on the van.I’ll be glad to contribute to the cause. I haven’t got the tickets yet but I plan on being in there about 10:30 on Friday and leave about noon Sunday.

My daughter’s moving this weekend and I’m spending money like crazy for that and other things, so it’ll take me a while to recover and purchase the tickets. But that’s the plan.

Jim

There is a liquor store just cattycorner across the street from the Ramada and another one immediately next door. If you had to drive to either of them, something would be terribly, terribly wrong.

And just so everyone knows, we’re talking about a Ramada Limited here. It’s just a little motel, basically. It doesn’t even compare to The Portofino in any way, shape or form. Just so there are no misunderstandings about what to expect.

Jim, consider your seat reserved. BTW, a couple people have already said they’d contribute, and I really appreciate it, but don’t worry about it, ok? I just like to drive, that’s all.
Thanks, Shayna. I, for one, didn’t think they were the same. But Diane is right, we’ll probably hardly be in them anyway. I just need a place for my [ahem] luggage.

Hey Demo, I might possibly need to book room in your minivan too if I don’t end up renting a car of my own. I’ll kick down some dough, or blow you or something.

I’m going to drive myself down. I will probably need to disappear for a couple of hours at some point to say hi to my cousins, but I can certainly fit 3 or 4 in my car for field trips.

I also will not be drinking at all, (new meds, bad idea) so if a designated driver is necessary, I’ll volunteer.

I haven’t yet decided where I’ll be staying. I’m having one of those nasty ends-in-0 birthdays that week, so I think I may treat myself to the Portofino. If that happens I’ll probably be open to having a roomie.

Okay. Just bought my tickets. I’ll be at LAX at 10 AM on Friday.

I’ve caved to the pressure of being around everyone, and have booked a room at the Ramada.

This is going to be GREAT.

Sweet mother of crap, you guys are organized. Travel and accomodation plans are still just an abstract concept to me at this point. After some thought, though, I may actually just drive down myself. It’ll be cheaper than a plane ticket and a rental car, and it should be all right if I leave Thursday morning, putting me in the L.A. area sometime in the early afternoon, which is now my tentative plan. If I do, I should be able to pick people up from the airport throughout the day Friday if they need transportation. Damn, I’m psyched!

If I can squeeze a few additional days from my boss, I may drive and make a stop in Vegas on my way down. If I do, I can also help out with rides. (Another girl in a convertible. Not a Mustang though, LaBaron.)

Anyway, I will know by next week if I will do this. If not, I will fly down Friday afternoon or Saturday morning. If I go this route, can I snag a ride with someone?

bump…

Okay, it looks like I spoke too soon about SeaDiver coming. She wants to come, but doesn’t know if she will be able to make it. In the event that she cannot come, I will be driving myself, and would like to extend an offer of a ride north to the Bay Area for any of the European Dopers who would like a very cheap ride to San Francisco. It’s long, but scenic (just ask thinksnow). This is, of course, conditional on SeaDiver coming or not as of now, but if anyone is interested, I will make it a definite.

I will look into getting a room at the Ramada. Anyone need a roommate?

My tickets arrived today!! There’s no turning back now. ACK!

Errrr… I mean, I’m so excited I could puke!
