Cole Slaw Sandwhich

A buddy and I were talking about a sandwhich that we’d both had at some point, made with cole slaw. Neither of us could think of the name, nor what the other ingredients might have been. Anybody ever have one of these?

I know someone from NC who puts cole slaw on her BBQ sandwich, could it be that?

My mom and grandma make those all the time! I don’t remember what the sandwich is called. They have turkey, cole slaw, swiss cheese, and thousand island dressing. I think they are on rye bread. Then you toast them in a frying pan. Man they are gooood!

It wasn’t a BBQ sandwich that I had. And, except for the turkey and coleslaw, BluMoon’s sandwich sounds like a reuben (which is made with corned beef and saurkraut). My buddy seemed to think that the sandwich was named after either a city or a football player.

I used to get cole slaw and pastrami sandwichs at a deli near where I worked. I just made it up looking at ingredients.

A deli here in town does a coleslaw, pastrami, and corned beef sandwich. They call it a “Troy’s Favorite”. Whether this name is common, I can’t say. But you will note that Troy is both the name a football player and a city.
It’s a great sandwich.

There’s a place here with big burgers with coleslaw on them, they are called ‘Viking Burgers’ after the local high school football team. They are very good.

Er, uh, were you guys “taking medicine for your cold” at the time?

Can we assume you ate this in TN?

Any other help?

LOL I’ve been googling about this sandwich, but am still unable to find a name for it! I used to get a grilled pastrami/swiss/coleslaw sandwich, but don’t remember what it was called. I did find one place that called it a Rachel (Reuben’s sister LOL), but I think that was just a name that particular caterer made up. I don’t particularly like sauerkraut, but I love coleslaw, and have even made the pastrami/swiss/coleslaw myself at home. It’s a very tasty sammich.

Hope someone posts what it is!

Dunno about him, but I’ve eaten so many things over the years that I can’t remember all of them, and it’s only been in the past couple of years that I’ve actually paid attention to what it was I was eating.

As a fellow mid-Tennesseean, ever been to Whitt’s BBQ, Tucker? They put slaw on their sandwiches, God bless 'em.

You say that like it’s something strange. Isn’t that what cole slaw is for?

I am a vegetarian who is right now eating a cole slaw on rye sandwich and an order of fries.

You’re probably thinking of a Reuben made with slaw instead of sauerkrat.

Could this be it? This is a staple in Pittsburgh cuisine. Trust me, there’s nothing better after a night of drinking.

I’ll put cole slaw on almost any sandwich. Pastrami, Bologna, Corned Beef, BBQ Pork, BBQ Beef, Turkey. It’s like a crunch condiment.

I LOVE A TURKEY RUEBEN.

that is all

I was in Reno recently and had a lunch special at Brews Brothers in the Silver Legacy. They called it a “Detroit Reuben”, and it was - you guessed it - a Reuben with coleslaw instead of kraut.

I liked it. I can take sauerkraut or leave it, but the coleslaw was milder while still supplying the cool/crunchiness.

The first time I had one was at a restaurant in the DC area named after a former Redskin…I want to say Theisman but I don’t think that’s right. It’s just a Reuben with coleslaw instead of sauerkraut. REALLY good - especially since I detest sauerkraut.

Not in many a year, I tend to prefer cow for my BBQ and not pork. I have heard that Pope Taylors BBQ in Murfreesboro is the one to eat. Of course, I don’t know if it’s quite the same since old man Taylor got busted for growing pot…
