Meanwhile, even though still undefeated, Kentucky is ranked too high for an unproven team. The win against U of L was satisfying because Pitino had his boys all aggressed up to get UK psyched out of the game. The fox, Calipari, anticipated that and UK provided the correct riposte. Not basketball but an interesting game.
I agree they are probably ranked too high, but given their wins over ranked opponents (UNC, UCONN) and their moxie in beating their talented rival Louisville, whom else would you put up there at this point in the season?
They have a reasonable shot at running the table in what appears to be a weak SEC this year.
Anyway, I really liked the way the U of L game played out. Pitino was pissed, and Calipari and I were happy. The Clash Of The Italians.
What a crazy year in the Pac 10. The only ranked team, Washington, has lost 2 games in a row and they’ll likely fall out of the rankings. USC was showing signs of coming on strong, but now with their tourney hopes gone, they’ll have a hard time getting motivated.
Unless Arizona wins the Pac 10 tournament, their NCAA streak is likely over.
Mizzou beat a #10 ranked K-State team yesterday at home. It was a real whistle-fest, which are the worst kind of game to watch. I was worried about losing are top two players from last year, but this teams plays unbelievably hard, and has no quit. Obviously they are not as good as Texas or Kansas, but I believe they can challenge for a top four seed in the Big XII tourney.
And Florida goes to 0-2 in the SEC after the Wildcats learn how to close out a game (finally!)
Bledsoe had a great night, Patterson and Wall were solid and Cousins showed some real post moves. This team should get past Auburn without trouble, Pelphrey’s got a question mark of an Arkansas team (but we should win) and then the real challenges show up: Vandy in Nashville, South Carolina and Ole Miss.
I don’t think we can run the table, but we’re taking a shot at it.
So, the Cats roll into that bustling metropolis, Auburn, Ala., for a showdown Saturday afternoon with the Tigers.
Auburn, of course, is fresh off playing a good 15 minutes against the Knoxville Detention Center squad before remembering that Charles Barkley and Wesley Person don’t play for them any more and losing by 20+.
It should be interesting to see if Auburn can come out and hit 3s and rebound like they did in the first half against the Fighting Pearls, because this Kentucky team still has issues with perimeter defense and if Big Cuz can’t stay out of foul trouble, the rebounding advantage gets a lot smaller.
So, let’s see. Neither the Arizona nor Arizona State games were televised on Thursday. Today, Arizona State is on tv at 2:30 and Arizona at 4:30, at the SAME TIME AS THE CARDINALS!
Hopefully, they’ll replay both games so I can see how both teams are doing.
how many teams from the PAC-10 will make the NCAAs? I can’t see more than two. If the regular season champ and the tournament champ is the same team, it could be just one team.
