College Football 2008

When* Central Michigan beats Georgia and Purdue where would you put them in the top 25?

  • Ok Ok …IF.

THE Ohio State University will go for its third BCS championship game appearance against either Florida or a hard fought Gerogia.

Third time is a charm.

Your third time vs. the SEC was last year. I seem to remember a certain NCAA basketball game…

Again to Michigan

With Grady out, it does now seem like a clean slate for Rod. The whole offense is his to shape in his own image, even though it was not his recruiting for the most part, time will tell, but I still got a lot of nerves

The guy got excellent players at West Virginia, ferchrissakes. Why would you be worried about whose recruiting he’s dealing with at this point?

ETA: Wait, you might be saying that he’ll be handicapped with players recruited for a different system. If so, then I retract my statements. I initially read them as a variation on the “He won with someone else’s players” theme.

Is anyone interested in a pick’em pool with point spread on Yahoo?

The pre season pundits are always wrong. They waste ink because every team is a question mark to some degree. College football has at least a 25 percent turnover every year. No one can really gage the way teams will solve their needs. Who predicted the fun of Notre Dame going down the rathole?

I’m looking forward to Big XII ball!

My half assed predictions:

North:
Missouri
Colorado
Kansas
Nebraska
Kansas State
Iowa State

South:
Oklahoma
Texas
Oklahoma State
Texas Tech
Texas A&M
Baylor

Missouri over Oklahoma as the Sooners come off an embarrassing Bedlam loss.

Nebraska is a big mystery. They got a new AD (Osborne) and new coach (LSU DC Pelini). This has certainly generated a lot of excitement, as opposed to the now-forgotten Callahan years.

However, were I to sum it all up:

  1. Bo Pelini is a tough coach with take-no-crap attitude
  2. ???
  3. Profit!

Somehow this will lead to us back over Mizzou and Kansas’ 1-year-wonders and restoring NU’s rightful place competing with Texas and OU for the Big XII.

I just don’t see it.

Our game vs Virginia Tech on 9/26 will tell me a lot.

My other team Hawaii? New coach, new QB, new WRs, and open at The Swamp. That’s gonna leave a mark…

I can quite clearly hear the band, the PA system and the fans at Bright House Networks Stadium right now. It’s the 4th quarter and we’re losing by two touchdowns, and I can hear everything.

My house is 4 miles away.

Amazing.

With the benefit of two week’s perspective, here is my analysis of the OP.

  1. No, Georgia will not be #1. Yes, they will probably lose at least two
SEC games, but it is unlikely they will lose to ASU.

  2. OSU will not play for the title if they lose to USC. There are quite a few teams that have the potential for 1 or 0 losses. The only advantage OSU would have, assuming USC was their only loss, is that it happened early in the season. Their recent reputation for performing poorly in the title game…as you said…plus 5-6 0-1 loss teams will prevent them from participating in the Fiesta Bowl…if they lose to USC. They travel to USC who has had a week off; and OSU had to score two fourth quarter touchdowns to beat Ohio U. at home. Doesn’t look good.

  3. Not a bad pick. They could likely be in Miami on 1/08/09.

  4. Notre Dame is not disappointing anymore. They proved last year they can be just as bad as the lower-tier teams. There isn’t much expectation for Notre Dame this year, so if they continue losing, it won’t necessarily be “disappointing.”

  5. That’s a strong statement. Though I don’t believe he is a very good football coach, I don’t think he is the most overrated in college football and he should hang on for a few more years at UW.

  6. I don’t think Bowden or Paterno will quit. Even if they both were utterly tired of coaching, the first one to retire gives the other coach the lifetime victory title. Ego, if nothing else, will keep both of them coaching for awhile. FSU and Miami’s return to greatness might be good for college football, but bad for those who hate those programs. Either way, the ACC doesn’t deserve to be a BCS conference, based on early season performance.

I did, I predicted they would have a miserable year last year.

[sub] on the otherhand I predict that every year so my hatred can fidduse through the cosmos[/sub]

We SUCK! :frowning:

with no intent to gloat (Cal fan here)…yeah. From our point of view that was the ugliest, least-satisfying total beatdown I’ve ever seen.

Poetry!

I predict (and hope) USC stays #1 the rest of the season, and takes another championship.

I predict Notre Dame gets handed unearned wins (like yesterday and like every season every year since I can remember) to a 50% win season and somehow, some way get into a crappy bowl and make it crappier. I hope they don’t ever win another game again, and cancel the whole football program in favor of curling.

Those predictions seem on the mark for me mostly. I can’t predict mizzou as a winner until they actually can beat Oklahoma.
