Here’s a thread to discuss college football this year.
Georgia will not be #1 at the end of the year. In fact, I think they’ll lose one or two SEC games as well as at Arizona State.
Ohio State needs to beat USC to get back to the BCS championship. In fact, they’ll probably need a perfect season. The two losses in the last 2 BCS games have really hurt the national perception of OSU. In fact, this year’s OSU team is their best team since the national championship team, but they’ll need the perfect season to get back into another BCS championship.
Florida is my preseason #1.
Notre Dame will continue to disappoint. This will make me very happy!
Tyrone Willingham will be fired at UW. He’s the most overrated coach in college football.
This should also be the last year for Bobby Bowden and Joe Paterno. Paterno has lost control of his program and Penn State will have another so so year. Florida State needs to move on as well. A return to greatness for Miami and Florida State would be good for college football as well as showing that the ACC deserves to be a BCS conference.
I agree that UGA won’t be #1 at the end of the year, since our SECW draw is LSU, Bama, & Auburn (in addition to the usual UT, UF & So Car). On top of that, we have a tough OOC slate. If we do end up winning it all, then the 2008 Dawgs would be one of the best college teams in modern history.
That being said, I doubt seriously that we lose to Arizona State. Anything is possible, though.
Yes and no. It’s funny how college football has become a pissing match with regards to the toughness of conferences. All the conferences are tough. Really, the two teams that are going to do nothing in the Big Ten are Northwestern and Indiana. That much we do know. Any other team can jump up and have a good year.
I don’t think USC will miss a beat with Sanchez injured. Mustain is a more than capable replacement. I see them beating OSU and making a run, once again.
Oklahoma may have a good shot this year. They didn’t lose a whole lot and Bradford should be improved over last year.
I am biased as a Texas fan, but I think Texas will surprise some people this year. The defense should be much improved with Will Muschamp coming in. I think that they have the personnel to compete against all of th spread offenses in the Big 12. The should also get a decent pass rush from their front four. They should have a more ball control, grind out the clock type of offense. The offensive line looks great, Jamaal Charles has been replaced by Vondrell Mcgee (less of a boom and bust back), and McCoy should be back to his freshman year form. I don’t think they are MNC level good, but the could easily get to a BCS game as an at-large or the conference winner.
On the other hand, Texas Tech is vastly overrated this year. They’ll maybe win 8 games, but have no business in the top ten.
I have no idea who will win the Big 12 North. Kansas will return to earth, however.
Missouri won’t have as good of a year, but they may take it again. It will take a couple of years for Nebraska to get back to dominance.
I agree about both Tech and Kansas being over-rated. Tech still has no defense and they always lose a game they shouldn’t. I think they’ll win 9 games or so and be a tough matchup in one of the second tier bowls.
Kansas actually has to play the good South teams this year. They’ll lose at least 3-4 games, which will still be a good season for them. I think it might even be the first time in their history that they will have been bowl eligible in back-to-back years.
I’m really not trying to be a homer here but I think Missouri has an outstanding chance of winning the Big 12 since we don’t play the Sooners during the regular season.
Everybody seems to overlook the defense which is understandable when it is being compared to the high octane offense.
I also think that Texas Tech is overrated. They have a great offense. their defense? Not so good.
I don’t agree with that site. Bowl Predications
1.West Virginia isn’t going to a BCS bowl.
2.Penn State isn’t going to the Rose Bowl.
3.If Notre Dame is bowl eligible, they’ll probably get a lesser New Years Game like the Gator Bowl. Unfortunately. Hopefully Notre Dame won’t be bowl eligible.
4.Texas won’t go to the Holiday Bowl. They went last year and Texas doesn’t travel well.
Arizona State will be the second best team in the Pac 10. They will do much better than the Las Vegas Bowl
I can easily see my Buckeyes losing two games this year. I am almost certain they’ll lose to USC, and I can see one fluky Big Ten loss as well, probably to Wisconsin. The Buckeyes tend to do best when nobody really expects them to.
Florida will win the national championship this year. Georgia has too tuff of a schedual especially their away game at LSU. USC should play for the national championship after beating Ohio and going through a week PAC-10. I’m a big Irish fan and I hope they do better but I fear it won’t be enough, I just want any bowl game.
As a Michigan fan I have a fair amount of nerves.
Rodriguez has had some issues winning in his first year, and this team isn’t really suited for his style yet. But the pure talent level of the players, plus what sounds like it is a monumentally better strength and condition program should carry them through okay. As long as they have a winning season and make a bowl to continue the streaks I’ll be happy, and the should do that.
Utah is a scarry opener though. A good enough team to jump on a bit of chaos, and if that goes badly they might not have the leadership to get things together for ND.
I’m a huge Georgia fan, and I think that this is the best team we’ve fielded in years. Still, our schedule is kind of scary. Florida and LSU are going to be the dealbreakers – what’s this crazy talk about us losing to Arizona State? Poppycock!
And if Ohio State goes to the championship again this year, I will cry. I mean, come on, after the past two years they should really just go try the Meineke Car Care Bowl on for size.
Michigan always gets talent, especially at running back (when they’re not driving drunk behind the wheel.) We’ll be fine. We won’t go undefeated and won’t play in the Rose Bowl (Wisconsin will).
We play 6 coaches who have won Div-I National Championships. 5 of those were in the past decade, and that doesn’t even count Tubbs, who went undefeated a couple years back.
UGA isn’t overrated. You’d have to be out of your mind to actually know who is on our roster and say that. The reason we won’t win the MNC this year is our schedule, not the talent level.
I will say that an early loss could be devastating to this team, as it was to LSU in '98. I hope not, but anything is possible.
