College Football Awards and Heisman Presentations

Watching the College Football Awards show on ESPN tonight, if anyone else is tuning in I figured a discussion thread is in order*. The Heisman is coming up this weekend, so I’m sure that will get a lot more interest and maybe we can start a few predictions here.

So far Jim McMahon has presented the Davey O’Brien Award to Robert Griffin III from Baylor. Also, Erin Andrews still looks super hot.

  • My excuse for starting this thread has absolutely nothing with the fact that I just checked out from the Disney Boardwalk Resort this afternoon and met Desmond Howard, Erin Andrews, Chris Fowler, Robert Griffin III and Trent Richardson in the lobby while checking out. Erin Andrews looks a lot different in person when she’s sporting jeans, she looks way hotter and surprisingly attainable. Also, she’s really tall, like over 6 foot. Desmond Howard was very friendly, I yelled at my mom for posing with a picture with him since as a Packer and Wolverine he’s basically the devil. He was also surprising tiny, like he could have fit in my pocket. Robert Griffin III had lunch at the table next to my mom, dad and aunt. He chatted with them and was extremely polite and eloquent, perhaps a bit shy even.

Justin Blackmon won the Fred Biletnikoff Award for the second straight year in the least surprising award of the night.

Stealth brag! Wait. It can’t be stealth bragging if there’s no stealth. Congratulations! That sounds like an amazing experience. I’m happy that Trent Richardson won at least one award this season (Doak Walker), even if I think he has already basically been passed over for the Heisman.

This is a pretty amusing pair of observations, since…

According to IMDB, Erin Andrews is 5’ 10".

According to Pro Football Reference, Desmond Howard is 5’ 10".

I’m 6’3" so it’s all relative. Erin Andrews is very tall for a girl, it’s rare I look at a girl eye to eye and in her shoes that was the case. I call that extremely tall. In contrast Howard is not 5’10", I suspect that’s a bit of a sports exaggeration that you see on cards and in media guides. However my observation was more about overall size than height, he’s just really little. I’m guessing he weighs in at no more than 150 these days. There was a handful of shots during last nights awards show where they were standing next to each other and Andrews was a heck of a lot taller, and she even made a joke about it at one point. A bit of that is shoes and hair, but it was pretty stark.

I would indeed have expected she would have been in heels.

As for Howard, that doesn’t surprise me, either. Smaller players in football tend to get some “inflation” in their height and weight. The Bears always listed Walter Payton at 5’ 10", 200 lbs., but informed sources would tell you that both were exaggerations. Even so, he was a rock.
