College football player hits a woman: The case of Joe Mixon

How did he remove himself. By going in to the deli?

You’re sure she didn’t what either? How is this responsive?

 Are you under the impression that running backs throw punches to evade tacklers?

The article does not say or imply this so I have no idea what words were being exchanged.

I am unaware that boxing is part of the OU running back training. As far as I know only things related to the duties of a running back are. Cite on this being standard training for a guy who is ultimately supposed to avoid contact on the field and why on earth would he need that skill?

If either of therm were training in boxing it would be as a hobby and why couldn’t either of them have been pursuing that? Her friend never got involved, who knows what the hell he knew; that’s kinda the point. He felt cocky enough to call the football player a racial slur ( in front of his football playing buddies no less ). It would make more sense that he thought he could back his words up as opposed to he’d get his butt kicked.

If you’re talking about the football player I doubt that was it but if you mean the woman and her friend then yes, thats why they said they went in. It really doesn’t matter though, the events inside were a reescalation of an issue rather than a continuation directly from the outside. They didn’t go in yelling at each other or fighting. It was picked back up inside.

At 0:17, she beckons him to the table. Words are exchanged. At 0:31, he turns to leave. That’s when she attacks him: as he’s turned to walk away.

She started it, he finished it.

I can see arguing that as an athlete he should be held to higher behavioral standards than the ordinary student, and that it is therefore justifiable to throw him off the team.

The argument that either of them has some claim for legal damages against the other, or that either of them should face criminal charges, is IMO ludicrous.

I’ll repost the link. You really should read it. I’m tired of parsing it back one question at a time.

"You’re sure she didn’t what either?

I was answering what was said in the part I uselessly quoted. Anyway it said

She didn’t expect that he would get hurt. I honestly don’t think it was that hard to figure out that this was what I meant. You could at least try even if technically it would be better to say “I’m sure that she didn’t possess that expectation either?” Damn. Context counts.

They are trained to make their way down the field, against people trying to knock them out. They are combatants.

what I see on the tape is not boxing or a punch, anyway. It looks like a football move. It’s completely economical and efficient in knocking her out, and I have a hard time separating that move from his training, if that’s what you’re doing.

In reality all the articles I’ve read are that his punishment in regards to playing football is why this was brought back up. Only here have I read anything about the criminal charges not being adequate. I’ve read nothing about the civil case so I don’t feel comfortable having an opinion on it either way.

Punishment for criminal acts is the realm of our criminal justice system. Mixon would be able press charges if he would like to even the score.

Self-defense is about protecting yourself from immediate grievous harm, not getting even.

OK man. I think we’re on the same page. She had no reasonable expectation of causing him harm. He had reasonable expectation that what he did could be fatal. Right?

Thanks for the late night laugh. It was a football move. That’s the ticket. That’s funnier than the word Picklemans and that has the word pickle in it which is a known funny word. It’s right up there with “he was pining for the fjords.” Extremely well played sir or madam.

Gotta go, I’m going to be watching all the youtube videos of running backs ko’ing all those poor defenders.

He did once he’d done it yes. It was a little late for it then though. Before, I don’t think he did. He stated that being called the slur by the guy made him forget the other situation adn then she shoved him. He really didn’t have time to recalibrate at that point when she refused to back down when he assumed an aggressive defensive posture which did not work. Running backs aren’t trained to deal with people who are obviously nuts.

It’s very clearly a punch. I’ve watched a lot of football in my day, and never seen a running back toss a right hook at anybody. The closest football move is the stiff-arm, which is quite different in form, execution, and purpose.

Protect himself from immediate harm is what Mixon did. The harm needn’t be grievous; during the Zimmerman/Martin case, Bricker shared case law of courts upholding self-defense claims based on punches to the face and the like.

No just watch him knock the girl out again in .007 seconds and take off. Guess it happened so fast he didn’t have time to remember his practices.

The guy just can’t win: he should have walked away, and he shouldn’t have left.

I see running backs using their arms all the time. They wouldn’t be very effective without using them.

You talking about Canadian football? Soccer?

I think the point is it’s very pedantic to claim he is not trained to do what is on that film. It’s aggression.

I see bowlers use their arms too. Are they trained to knock people out?

And the aggression came from Molitor. She must play football too.

OK here’s where the rubber hits the road or something.

So he went into the deli to make things all OK?

Do you think he was smoothing things over, and backing off, and she just went off on him? Hard to feature that. I think he must have made a really offensive comment to provoke that response. Maybe that’s just my perception.

Or did he go in to poke back and it started something?

I’m having trouble finding those youtube videos which is odd since it happens all the time. Please link me to some examples of running backs ko’ing defenders and I’ll concede the point. Stiff arms don’t count. No one gets their face fractured by a stiff arm which isn’t even legal to a helmet. Put up or shut up.

Stiff arm

So you’re saying that what you saw was him extending is arm, locking his elbow and outstretching the palm and then despite his ninja football training he missed the shoulder and or chest and crushing her face instead? Come on man. Give it up. You lost this one or like I said, show me one legal video of a running back hitting a guy in the face and not get penalized for it. Quck note, football players don’t practice how to perform a maneuver that will cost his team yardage. Just doesn’t happen.

This is a good point?
