Huh?
Yeah, two wrongs make a right.
They were getting screwed, but not by “their own team”. As others have said, it doesn’t sound like this group had anything at all to do with Bush’s campaign or the GOP. Are you so partisan that old people being scammed is okay with you, because they’re Bush supporters, and therefore had karmic retribution coming to them?
Someone said it in one of the threads about (alleged?) voter intimidation: A scummy move on the part of Bush supporters is not a victory for Kerry or his supporters. A scummy move on the part of Kerry supporters is not a victory for Bush or his supporters.
gobear, it seems you are unable to separate people and their politial beliefs. In one of your posts, you question whether you still have any entitlement to express an opinion. Are these folks who are being ripped off not allowed to hold their own opinion? Does your degree of compassion wax or wane with a victim’s agreement with your own political beliefs?
And to finish, a Plurium Interrogationum: Do you believe all victims of rape were too stupid to protect themselves, or only those who were “asking for it”?
That has yet to be proven one way or the either.
Pretty much. If you support evil, don’t be surprised when evil preys on you. I’m not saying it’s right, I’m saying that they shouldn’t be astonished that Republicans practice chicanery. Moreover, so what if they’re old? Would you be so outraged if the victims were all in their 30s?
And you are a fucking idiot who needs to learn how to create apposite analogies.
Their relatives should have been protecting them, I agree. But the fact that they weren’t isn’t the fault of the elderly person in question, nor does it excuse the people who were taking advantage of them. It just adds one more to the list of people who were acting reprehensibly in this situation.
Your situational ethics are far removed from mine gobear if you actually believe that someone can “deserve” to be a victim of crime. When your car is broken into and your stereo is stolen, should the police and your insurance company inform you that because it wasn’t a really safe neighborhood, you deserved to have your shit ripped off?
As to the claim that Republicans practice chicanery, I will not disagree, however some supporters of the GOP do not endorse or practice anything outside of the law. There isn’t a political party out there that is squeaky clean, and all of their bullshit is fundamentally wrong.
The same can be said about “evil” as both parties have done things which offend their own supporters and upset the opposition. Neither side of the aisle has a hold on the market of bad shit.
Your inability to apply ethical expectations on a uniform basis does not make me an idiot. I may well be an idiot, but your ridiculous support for the victimization of someone based upon their political beliefs is not the reason for it.
Do you honestly believe that the prisons are filled only with Republicans?
Let me amend my own statement above. I know by your previous posts that you do not “support” the victimization of these people. You do, however, fail to acknowledge that they are legitimate victims; this was the intent of my statement.
I think you’ve gone round the bend.
gobear, I’ve read this thread again trying to get an understanding of your opinion. If I have it correct, this accurately summarizes your position:
- Republicans and/or the Republican Party (you’re not clear on this) are evil
- Evil people are likely to be without good moral or ethical ethos and are likely to do bad things.
- If someone financially supports the G.O.P., they are thereby supporting evil.
- If someone supports evil, they should not be surprised when that evil comes and does bad things to them.
- The person who suffers loss or harm from the bad deeds done by the evil party they supported is largely responsible for the loss or harm that they suffer.
Based upon the above, I propose that you believe that:
- Democrats and/or the Democratic Party are not evil.
- Since Dems are not evil, it is not reasonable to expect that Dems will do bad things.
- If someone supports the Democratic Party, but is taken in by a shyster, they cannot reasonably have expected to have been taken advantage of.
- Since the Dem supporter canot have reasonably expected loss or harm to come to them, they are a victim.
Does this moral and ethical separatism fall along strictly polical lines, or should other individuals be wary of being part of an evil group? A particular racial line, perhaps? Maybe socioeconomic? Do tell!
Fundamentalist Christians. Fuckin hate 'em.
As for my contention that the GOP is evil, what do you call a party that supports an administration that deliberately lied to start a war that has killed and maimed thousands of Americans and Iraqis? What do you call a party that has declared war on gay people in such vile terms that even their lickspittle toadies, the LCR, has refused to endorce them? What do you call a party that blames Democrats for opposing a war funding bill that would have denied health benefits to National Guardsmen?
