Color Names We Love

Stargoon Dorkwood is no name for a kid to grow up with

That’s an ugly gray color. Is the car that color?

I still like oldies like Burnt Siena and Raw Umber.

“Burf Pink”.

Better than the girl’s name in a caption in the paper the other day: Pashents. What was the matter with “Patience”??

Perhaps they were in too much of a hurry to look up the spelling.

I saw something today that said that a couple wanted to call their baby Kaitlin, but thought that there are too many other Kaitlins out there so they decided to spell it phonetically, and they decided to use the Roman numerals for “eight” to replace the “ait”. So the poor baby is named KVIIIlin.

I hope this isn’t true.

I think I spied several good screen names among those AI color names.

Turns out the vehicle is indeed a mid-gray, so it looks like you’ve figured it out. I had assumed that the key was the color name of “noble” meant that it was their family name or a reference to the nobel prize.

Geez, couldn’t they just go with K8Lynne like a normal person?!!

Actually, I think I’m ok with this kind of thing. They’ve given her an ordinary name (so shw won’t have problems at school or with friends, that works like an ordinary nick-name (which should be ok with her friends and school), along with a unique spelling (so her credit record and bills won’t get mixed up, and she won’t be saddled with someone elses court record.

Sure she’ll have to show her drivers licence ever time she needs to spell her name, but that’s increasingly the case anyway.

She will have to explain the spelling of her name a lot - for example, turning up for a booking in a hotel:
“I have a reservation in the name of Smith”
“Your first name please?”
“it’s ‘Kaitlyn’”
“Is that with a K or C?”
“K”
“Sorry, I can’t find a booking for that name”
“It’s an unusual spelling, just look for K Smith’”
“I have a booking for … um… Ker…vill…iain Smith”
“Yeah, that’s me”
“but I thought you said your name is Kaitlyn”

Or she’ll spell it more conventionally in any public context, which sort of defeats the point.

Do schools still teach reading roman numerals? Personally, I’d jettison that before cursive.

I think I actually have the latest release from Stormgarden, and I think Deathcrack’s next album will be awesome. On the other hand, I’m through with Inhuman Sand, they haven’t come out with anything new in years…

I think it’s probably a misremembering of a work of fiction.

At least, I hope it is.

I’ve always been partial to Periwinkle.

Yes! Bunflow was the best!

Mom and Dad couldn’t spell it? :o
