Does Colorado has any Hispanic Congressmen in the House?
According to the US House website, the members of Congress from Colorado are:
DeGette, Diana; Colorado, 1st
Udall, Mark; Colorado, 2nd
McInnis, Scott; Colorado, 3rd
Musgrave, Marilyn; Colorado, 4th
Hefley, Joel; Colorado, 5th
Tancredo, Thomas; Colorado, 6th
Beauprez, Bob; Colorado, 7th
I have no idea if all of these people were re-elected earlier this month. The only name on that list that strikes me as possibly “looking Hispanic” is Tancredo, but his House page doesn’t seem to mention anything about his ethnicity.
Colorado’s senator-elect is Latino, Ken Salazar.
In addition to Senator Ken Salazar, we also elected his brother John in District 3. So to answer the question, no, not now, but yes in January.
FWIW… Ken Salazar is replacing retiring Senator Ben Nighthorse Campbell, the only Native American in the Senate.
I had to do some digging, but finally found a mention of Tom’s “Italian immigrant grandfather” on this page. Meanwhile, I learned that Rep. Tancredo not only favors tightening laws devoted to fighting illegal immigration, but favors a ban on Hispanic and other ethnicity-based caucuses in Congress. Earlier this month, Tancredo beat Democrat Joanna Conti by a 60%-39% margin, so his constituents will continue to be treated to (or stuck with, depending on your point of view) his opinions for at least two more years.
