Come on down, motherfucker, yes, that's you VC03!
Again, I think you’re mixing things up (which is understandable, the effects are very similar in some ways): the silver bullet jobbies are nitrous, not poppers. The things you’re thinking of looked like this, right? Those are one-shot nitrous canisters, designed to make about 1/2l of whipped cream. (Don’t worry, mods, that site is a completely legal catering supplier, and won’t ship to anywhere but the UK.)

Poppers usually look for all the world like a bottle of nail polish remover.

Preview: yes, you’ve got it right now.

Yep. Exactly right! Those were the bad boys.

I tell you though, being a Party Major in college is hard work – I mean, just look at the number of drugs one has to keep in mental inventory thirty years after the fact! :stuck_out_tongue:
For about the 900th time, analogies are fine as illustrations, but they don’t prove a damned thing. In this case, asking someone if they wear platform heels is a tweenie bit left on the insultometer than asking someone if they do illegal drugs.
Is it? If I were asking that question, I’m sure as hell not trying to insult. Most of us have probably have tried an illegal drug at one time or another. Can’t really see asking about it in this context as insulting at all. Are poppers even all that dangerous?

VC03 is generally an asshole, but not this time.

I noticed you guys retain an awful lot of what you learned in college.

 “Migraines are a beeyotch. Say, didn’t you have a 32-page thread about being a stripper a while back? Anecdotally I hear strippers are more prone to do drugs than Joe Average, so while I’m not interested in making value-judgments about your occupation, I’ve got a little light blinking here and I’m worried enough that I want to say something…”

They obviously didn’t do enough drugs.

'cept the ability and physical condition to do it all over again. One of those nights would no doubt put me in a coffin now a days. Say goodbye to good times, say hello to hair growing out your ears! :frowning:

Growing old is inevitable.

Growing-up is a choice.

Plus what Malacandra said. I only graduated with a B average. piss-poor for a Party Major.

Put it this way, what if I were a college student and posted a similar OP and got this response?"

Would you take offense to that? I sure as hell wouldn’t. It’s a perfectly reasonable question. Lots of my classmates took ephedrine as a study aid. He’s not directly accusing me of using it, just giving me the facts given my situation.

ParentalAdvisory, immediately asking someone if they’ve done recreational drugs in response to their statement about having a migraine is ridiculous because there are so many different mundane triggers.

Given that Indygrrl just recently had a thread on studying for a math exam, would it not be more reasonable to assume the migraine was caused by stress?
Imagine the following statements being said to a mathematician.

“You’re a mathematician, what’s that like?” No insult there.

“You’re a mathematician. You must be geeky, socially awkward, physically unattractive, and a loser with women.” Surely somebody would be pissed at that.
this is exaggeration station. First of all its not a question. Second of all I really don’t think this is as much about stripper stereotypes as it does occupational hazards. Like I said before, I’ve been asked before while sick if I’ve taken any ketamine.

Asking someone if they have taken something that could in effect cause the problem that was being complained about is not the same thing as rudely declaring someone to be a loser (or a drug user) based on their profession (is stripping considered a profession?)

Now “poppers” has to be the most insane choice of drug to ask if she’s taken and whether or not it has the effects he claims it might is not something I can say. Unless he just wanted to fuck with her, the OP in his mind had reasonable intentions…headaches…poppers… did you take any poppers and get a headache?

If a stripper were to complain of rapid heart beat or sleeplessness you could probably expect someone to ask if she’s been doing cocaine. A stripper would be more likely to be asked this question than Suzy Chapstick with 3 kids and a minivan…that woman would be asked if she had taken any of her kids ritalin.

People act on trends and ask questions on them because the research into things like crime and drug use do show things like trends and can be useful. Just because there is a trend one way or another doesn’t mean that each individual on a case by case basis is either participating or not participating in crime or drug use, it just means that completely objectively without knowing the person, they may be more likely to than your average non-stripper person in a SAMPLE. When this happens its better to just answer yes or no honestly and move on.

Clearly this guy has no idea what he’s talking about and the whole idea of anyone doing poppers is pretty bizarre. It seems pretty goofy though to try to pressure him into being nice.

Me three. I just don’t get the asshole vibe from him that everyone else seems to get.

Oh yeah, the OP - this Pitting does not get two thumbs up from me. I think both parties were somewhat at fault, and am leaning more towards Indygirl over-reacting than VCO3 trying to be a jerk.

Try getting some coffee from him.
Loller, because I didn’t like him assuming I did poppers means I must have actually done them? Wow, what an elaborate plan on my part.
You’re still not getting it. He didn’t assume anything. He asked * you if you did poppers, based on his seemingly extensive ( ) knowledge of strippers. If he assumed, he would have said "You have a migraine because you do poppers, since you’re a stripper and all. Now will you peg me?"

*[sub]I still have no idea what that means.[/sub]
Now will you peg* me?"

Pegging is another word coined by Dan Savage due to lack of word in place. Pegging is when a woman has sex with a man using a strap on.

Well asking about recreational drugs is one of many possibilities obviously. I don’t think it’s ridiculous to ask though. If “Alcohol”, and “Excessive caffeine or caffeine withdrawal” is in the list, harder drugs can give even harder withdrawal symptoms then that.

Count me in as another vote on the “they’re both at fault” list. While I enjoy both VCO3’s post (for the comedic value) and Indygrrl’s (because she has a lot of interesting stuff to say), they’re both very easy to peg (if you will):

VCO3 is an ass hole 99% of the time.

Indygrrl will randomly mention the fact she’s a stripper in threads that don’t seem at all connected to stripping.

And while we’re at it.

Evil Captor will connect bondage to the most mundane threads and WhyNot’s kid will have some Homer Simpsons-like connection to everything in the world.

Joking on that last one.

I thought you were cute in the Doper Pictures thread. Now, you’ll always be ‘the guy that told me what pegging is’.
